Re: 6 player maps?
Well, Its still going from 3-4 (counting 6 players) options to 7, about twice that.Zarel wrote:Well, if they're in order:Michal wrote:Well... How much tabs in map select window can you have and still find something? And how much of that 'odd player' maps would be? I think that after 'yeah that's awesome idea' stage it will soon end in 2-3 maps per new class and that's it.
Maybe I'm wrong, but how many of the RTS games have 3,5,7 player maps?
2P
3P
4P
5P
6P
7P
8P
I don't think it'd be particularly hard to find any. Here, find "7P" on that list. Wasn't hard, was it?
I know of many RTSes with 3P, 5P, etc maps.
I'm just a bit sceptical and prefer to do things step by step. But sometimes my friends actually want do do 3 player no alliances, and humans can get used to almost everything so... Go ahead if you want to.

Nice to hear that. Well, I won't go easy on evaluation, nonetheless (you can call that "hard feelings", yeah)Mats wrote:Randomly woke up at 5am this morning and thought I would give flaME a go. Pretty easy to use it seems. Made a wee 2 player test map, then made a working 6 player map, but without any effort on textures. Expect a map from me... Sometime (probably this week).![]()
8 hours? - Because of messing about with textures all the time?![]()
It took 8 hours because I produce may height maps using layered images in photoshop, to produce effects that would take ages on the editor, especially. And I also play around a lot with textures. And I make craters with real depth... And this kind of thing
The game already has a lot of trouble handling units from 8 players, methinksFlank4 wrote:What about higher than 8 players?

I think that 8 players is already enough for a RTS, it's already hard to fill up a room with 8 players

Indeed. Even on the gateway with the highest population in StarCraft, filling an 8P game can take ages if you are unlucky. And the US East gateway tend to have around 100 people minimum, and its where I play.

There is still the unit issue. And there is the issue with the current map size cap. And balancing maps is harder with more players. I'm sure there are a lot of other problems, some of which I didn't even think about yet.
But, if it's possible and the staff agrees, maybe we could have 10 players max, but I wouldn't go over those limits - being Warzone a RTS. In FPS and MMORPG, it's obvious that a large capacity is desirable.
Hmm, makes Mount&Blade: Warband come to mind. That one will certainly be awesome with many players.
Anyway - I guess the devs are already thinking about that. I really don't feel the need of more than 8 players, but 3,5,6 and 7 are desirable (also widens the scope of possible maps with scavengers, which is a good thing!)

Re: 6 player maps?
We may make code changes to allow for more than 8 logical players on some level, such as for spectators, AIs, and "fake" players that serve some code purpose, but it's doubtful we would allow more than 8 human players in the near future.

And why would you? You don't learn anything if everyone says something mediocre is great, instead of saying, 'that's average, you can improve x'.Nice to hear that. Well, I won't go easy on evaluation, nonetheless
3,5,6,7 players would be great! 8+ players? Not really needed.
Full of ideas - Most are probably useless. Feel free to ignore them

Re: 6 player maps?
As Zarel said it would just become a spectors or an extra ai over 8 players. You couldn't have over 8 real people because it would cause more sync related issues than there are already. I think it is a great idea to add spectators or even if people could see everything once they have died so they can watch the rest of the game, would be nice.Mats wrote:3,5,6,7 players would be great! 8+ players? Quite a lot have at least 3 player maps.... your basic Free for all map.Michal wrote:Maybe I'm wrong, but how many of the RTS games have 3,5,7 player maps?
Sure you can have a free for all on a 4 player map, but the dynamics just arent the same, and people want to form alliances.
Interesting 4 player ffa maps are structures like tournaments- two players start in close proximity to each other, as do two other players, their fighting is inevitable, and ends pretty early, unless they are very evenly matched, in which case they are both doomer if the other pair is uneven, and one person gets a quick victory- the other pair is still locked in mortal struggle when the invader comes
3 player maps are limited fights for resources, if any two players go at it all out, the third will sit back and finish off the winner - much posturing and small skirmishes over resources - until some person thinks they have enough of an advantage to make their move, and the sh*t hits the fan.
4 player maps, with an empty base that 2 of the three players are closest too, just isn't the same
Homeworld had 3,5,7 player maps, though I think the 5 and 7's had to be user created.
Even ORB had 3 player maps

5 player, balanced, FFA - Madness. Just like how you describe 3 player FFA, but madder.

Re: 6 player maps?
5 or 7 player FFA is insane, especially when ALL SEVEN players armies collide in the center of the map. No, really. I've seen it happen. You cannot micromanage in those, all you can do is hope, and pray that luck is on your side. In StarCraft, it's even more chaotic when air hits air, because of stacking. Despite that, it is excellent fun.

Re: 6 player maps?
Dude. When that happens, the proper course of action is to hide, let the other six duke it out, and then sweep the map when no one has any sizable army left.Assault Gunner wrote:5 or 7 player FFA is insane, especially when ALL SEVEN players armies collide in the center of the map.
