Assigning trucks to buildings
An item that I have long found annoying in the game is that after starting a truck on a building, you cannot assign another truck onto the building until construction has started. With the new holograms of the structure to be built, I don't see any reason to not allow different trucks to start building the structure. Is there any reason this has not been done yet?

Because it's really hard to program the game to do that.theArmourer wrote:An item that I have long found annoying in the game is that after starting a truck on a building, you cannot assign another truck onto the building until construction has started. Take, for example, Supreme Commander 2, a game that was released yesterday, and a good example of a "modern" game. You can't help-build on holograms, either.
You're welcome to try it yourself, though.

In Age of Empires 2 you can assign more workers to a building before it has begun construction. I don't know why it would be so hard, and I likely would not understand the explination of why. And I am 100% sure that I could not program it, the most programming I know is two months of a beginning C++ course. But if you wouldn't mind giving me an explanation to its challenging nature, I would appreciate it.

Ok I don't now the specifics of WZ, but generally I don't know why a hologram should be different then a constructing or damaged building. Other than the hologram disappears if you assign the truck to something different or it gets destroyed. And that actually annoys me somewhat.
Lets say I plan out a fortification, but then decide to have the other, just damaged, fortification repaired first (or truck gets destroyed), the plan vanishes instead of waiting until I (re)assign a truck to it.

I think they just can't be bothered to
Could at least save build order queues into save game files. So you can reload a game and have the truck continue to build the stuff it was told to before saving.

If you want to add another truck to help build the structure when the first one hasn't started. Click second truck click what you want it help build(in the build menu). Then position the hologram over the original hologram and both trucks will build it.

Well, um... for me personally, it's because it's not an area of code I'm familiar with, so I don't really feel like doing anything with it. So the difficulty for me would be the difficulty of learning how the holograms work first, which I do not have the free time to do.theArmourer wrote:In Age of Empires 2 you can assign more workers to a building before it has begun construction. The generic answer is: The developers aren't paid, so they do what they want. None of them particularly want to code that feature, so it doesn't get done. If you want it to happen, do it yourself or pay us to.

Those are perfectly legitimate reasons, I'm not rying to complain about it, but there is no way that I could do it right now.

Re: Assigning trucks to buildings
You can - but it is not as simple as clicking on the hologram.
You must tell your truck to build the same building, in the same location.
Whichever one gets there first, starts building the building, and the second one will help when it gets there.
At least thats how it used to work, I don't know if there has been any change since the addition of holograms
