weapon weight balance
I'm making this suggestion based on graphical representation and some sense only. I'm not accustomed with real life weaponry, so anyone with better knowledge may have their say. Weight data taken from 2.3 beta 10
1. Hurricane = Cyclone/Whirlwind = 10.000
graphically hurricane is only half the size of other AA guns, does it weight the same?
2. Howitzer = Hellstorm = 10.000
isn't hellstorm uses 3 howitzers? or smaller version?
3. Mortar=2.000 vs Pepperpot=1.000
it seems pepperpot uses smaller mortars, but does it really weight less?
4. Avenger=400 vs Vindicator=6.000
i think that is a lot of weight for an extra couple of missile..

Is this a suggestion?
hehehehehe, nevermind.
You should add to your list the Twin Assault cannon vs Heavy cannon, methinks

Howitzer: Supposedly 105mm
Hellstorm, supposedly tripple 105mm, yet it does less damage, so then the powder and shell weight must be different, could be lighter 105 mm's, but it should be at least 2x as heavy.
Twin AC is graphically much bigger than the AC, but based on weapon stats, should be only 2x the weight or less.
Vindicator: yea, makes no sense.
My biggest complaint is the heavy laser.
You go from the 500 weight pulse, to 20,000 heavy.
Assuming flashlight=light laser, pulse = medium laser, heavy = heavy, then this is grossly disproportionate to the light/med/heavy cannon weights, or the needle/rail/gauss weights, or mg, twin mg, heavy mg... etc
Heavy laser's weight bugs me the most.
Now that it is long range like pulse, I want to use it, but the way it slows my tanks down puts me off...

Maybe it's supposed to be used more in defenses than tanks? :rolleyes:3drts wrote: My biggest complaint is the heavy laser.

Re: weapon weight balance
HL is more for defending than attacking.
The weight is kind of ridiculous, but it's either that, or make HL just another generic laser. I think the fact that there are no "Light Laser" and "Medium Laser" should be a hint that HL really is heavy.
I am planning on fixing the Avenger/Vindicator disparity, though.

Re: heavy lasers. I would like to put forward this argument:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_YAL-1 The anti-ballistic laser plane.
From the article: "The heart of the system is the COIL, comprising six interconnected modules, each as large as an SUV turned on-end. Each module weighs about 6,500 pounds (3,000 kg)."
My point being that big lasers are really heavy, and the size scaling isn't linear.

Size scaling is pretty linear, when graphed against laser intensity.zimboptoo wrote: My point being that big lasers are really heavy, and the size scaling isn't linear.
Make a really F*king big laser, get a really f*king powerful one.
The heavy laser is not 20,000/500 = 40 x more powerful than puls
re: Zarel
You may say there is no light, or medium laser, but I would argue that is exactly what flash and pulse are...
Its scourge that has no light or heavy variant,
and lancer/TK that have only 2 sizes.

...I'm saying that flash and pulse aren't named "light" and "medium" because they aren't, in terms of weight.3drts wrote:You may say there is no light, or medium laser, but I would argue that is exactly what flash and pulse are...
Furthermore, I'm saying that the weight disparity is necessary or else HL would be "just another laser", rather than occupying a new niche.

Re: weapon weight balance
Heavy lasers are supposed to be the best defense against Super Cyborgs, right? Flashlight and Pulse Laser are better suited for normal cyborgs, methinks
But anyway, a thing that I can't completely understand is why the VTOL versions are so different in relation to each other (Pulse Laser weights the same, but Heavy Laser weights 1/4 - only 5000).
This doesn't make much sense, as other stats are proportional (HP of both is halved, DPS is doubled, accuracy stays the same, range also).

I think its so that a VTOL can move with decent speed with the damned thing.
"There is no greater Void than the one between your ears." - Void Ray, StarCraft 2.
Especially the Void between the ears of people who think that No VTOL is a good idea, and won't lead to arty wars. I've won one, and I have to say: I hated it.

Yeah, but why not allow ground units to move at a decent speed with it? VTOLs are faster and have much higher mobility, this spoils the supposed defensive profile of the turret. Or at least I think so.Assault Gunner wrote:I think its so that a VTOL can move with decent speed with the damned thing.

Re: weapon weight balance
Have you tried an HL VTOL? iirc, it's literally the slowest VTOL I know of. No need to make it that much slower.
By the way, DPS is not doubled.
Compare:
http://guide.wz2100.net/w/pulselaser (DPS: 31 base)
http://guide.wz2100.net/w/vtolpulselaser (DPS: 39 base)

Nah, plasmite bombs VTOLS are much slower! And VTOL EMP missiles are slower also, I think.Zarel wrote:Have you tried an HL VTOL? iirc, it's literally the slowest VTOL I know of. No need to make it that much slower.

But about the DPS, it was a mistake - I meant damage
Well, but even though those VTOLs should be made slower, I still think that the ground/VTOL versions should be more similar. Even the cost is the same!

Does that include removing the ammo limitation of the VTOL variant, or adding it to the standard turret as well..?Olrox wrote:... I still think that the ground/VTOL versions should be more similar. ...

Of course not, that would be stupid. Just like your post...TVR wrote:Does that include removing the ammo limitation of the VTOL variant, or adding it to the standard turret as well..?Olrox wrote:... I still think that the ground/VTOL versions should be more similar. ...
I mean, I don't even know why you waste your time posting such things. Is it just to irritate people? Go look at your pathetic being in front of a mirror if you want to make someone feel bad.
But please forgive me if you really thought about the ammo limitations, despite how unlikely that possibility is.
