Mini rocket array
I've always been fascinated by this weapon, however I've always found it awkward in its "artillery" role, given that by range and firepower it fares better as an early assault rocket imho.
Especially now that it has renamed as mini rocket array, what do you think about reclassifying the weapon in the direct fire role as a bridge between mini rockets and lancers?
Would it be hard to mod it that way to experiment?
Thanks!

Re: Mini rocket array
Well, I always found it cool as it is indirect...
You can make a mod that will do that.

It is easy.
I would make you one, but I am busy right now.

Re: Mini rocket array
It's an artillery weapon because it does artillery damage. It's not a midpoint between MRP and Lancer at all. MRP and Lancer are weapons designed to be good against tanks, while MRA is good against cyborgs and walls.

Re: Mini rocket array
Ok, what do I need to change to make it a direct fire weapon?

Re: Mini rocket array
I guessed that but I cannot find which is the parameter I have to change in the weapon entry.

The one that says "INDIRECT". Change it to "DIRECT".Zarax wrote:I guessed that but I cannot find which is the parameter I have to change in the weapon entry.

Thanks!
I know I sound like a total newbie, it's mostly because I'm not familiar with the modding structure of the game yet.
Definitely not as readily grasped as other games but I'll get used to it.

It is and it isn't.Zarel wrote:It's an artillery weapon because it does artillery damage. It's not a midpoint between MRP and Lancer at all. MRP and Lancer are weapons designed to be good against tanks, while MRA is good against cyborgs and walls.
It isn't for the points you brought up above.
It is because its midway in research.
It is because its between them in range (though very close to the mini-pod)
It is because its a salvo fire weapon (like the lancer), but has a high ROF (due to the large # of rockets per salvo), like the mini-pod.

Re: Mini rocket array
Anyway, according to my philosophy of "if you disagree with a creation make a mod for it" here's what I made:
Let me know how it feels.
EDIT: forgot to mention, it's for 2.3 beta 10.
EDIT2: MRA feels a bit more useful when attached to a commander now, it feels more accurate against units and pretty good in early base assaults.
On the other other side the direct trajectory makes it slightly less useful as early base defense, so it's a fair trade-off.
Imho it fills a nice niche as "assault platform", similar to the sturmtiger: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturmtiger

Re: Mini rocket array
I've added it to the campaign and I must say that it feels quite useful in Beta, where it usually would have been shelved in place of heavier artillery...
