Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
Hello,
I decided on not to make a bug ticket about this as it seems I'm the only on who has this problem.
I'm running a computer with Win 7 Ultimate x86.
Video is Radeon X1550. Sound shouldn't have any impact in this.
So the case is, each time i try to launch a skirmish game, after i press the ready check box and it starts loading, i get an error message:
"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the applications support team for more information."
And the only error file that gets an error message added is "stderr.txt" with following information:
"error |02:07:47: [scr_error] script parse error:
'Type mismatch for parameter 0' at player0.slo:113
Token: 41, Text: ')'"
I don't have the default game settings, but had the same problem after setting them to default. Had changed only resolution, color depth and game difficulty.
Although my hard drive is slowly going down, starting to find bad sectors each week. Could it be, that some needed configuration file managed to get on a bad sector and that screwed it? No Problems in campaign mode though.
In case u will need more detailed info about the PC, please say it and ill sum it up and post it.

Make a ticket. Always.

Well, to every rule an exception. In this case it really sounds like a corrupted script file due to bad sectors. I would recommend replacing the harddisk immediately and rescuing your data, then reinstalling the game.KukY wrote:Make a ticket. Always.

1. This isn't a bug, this is an issue that needs help and troubleshooting.
2. We prefer if bugs were verified before being posted in the tracker. If you're not sure if a bug belongs in the tracker, we would indeed prefer if you asked on the forums first (and we would also prefer if you posted in the tracker if someone did say "yes, that's a bug").

It could also be a problem with incompatible script files, in a mod or if you installed over an old version.

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
I have the same problem with beta 9 under OpenSuse 11.2 :
Best graphics I ever had with my machine, everthing else working fine including Challenges
- AND EVERY TIME I TRY TO LOAD A SKIRMISH MAP MY PC FREEZES !
(we're talking "pull the plug to restart" on a linux machine ! )
I'm now trying this:
Compile Beta 10 and place it in a totally seperat directory under a completely different user.
See what happens...
NOPE!
It happened again:
skirmish --> options --> map yields instant complete freeze!
The problem is in the map selection, possibly for very new operating systems...
That os is somewhat buggy, but I guess I won't go back to older ones just for wz's sake.
So unless there's not a method to turn maps to challenges, this is - for me, for now - good bye warzone2100.
Had a good time here.

Details about your graphics card and drivers, please.Private Bill wrote:I have the same problem with beta 9 under OpenSuse 11.2 :

Either sound (pulse audio?) or video driver problems.Private Bill wrote:I have the same problem with beta 9 under OpenSuse 11.2 :

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
Tried to install on 2 machines under opensuse 11.2 :
-AMD Sempron(tm) 2200+ with ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 PF (driver ati)
and
Intel Pentium (R) 4 2.4 Ghz with i845 (driver intel)
on this machine Beta 9 was running in a low graphics mode (64 bit textures, 800x600) with little trouble
(performance degraded within 30 min, crash possible) under opensuse 11.0)
On AMD nothing is playable (no surprise, never really was), on intel, as said before,
-tutorial, fastplay, campaign and challenge work
-skirmish crashes the complete machine at map selection
The user account & system held no trace of any previous wz installations (hd reformated)

Private Bill, a crashdump would be nice.

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
Thanks Everyone,
but don't waste your time on this. It doesn't seem to be a wide-spread problem, probably limite to older machines and/or ancient graphics cards. Wouldn' have this problem, but a little real-world accident confines me to my appartment at the moment, planned hardware upgrades had to be postponed for ... whatever. Sorry.
It stands to reason that it has to be some interaction between the new 11.2 graphics/driver libs and wz's use of those. (wouldn't be surprised at all if those were the same stuff ms used in win***s #7) .
So, again, let's move on.
All I need is a work-around for the map selection, using
-loading a saved game or
-creating a challenge.
Challenges are the likeliest candidate, giving parameters in a text file instead of a dialogue.
Does have anyone a "Map to Challenge" Cookbook ?
That would really help.
(Starter-Packs extracted form saved games would to, but let's not get greedy ... ;)

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
Does clicking the "Map Preview" icon make it freeze as well ? What I mean is don't change any options, just go:
Code: Select all
Main Screen -> Single Player -> Skirmish -> Map Preview-

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
Exactly that happens, tried it last night right after this post.Safety0ff wrote:Does clicking the "Map Preview" icon make it freeze as well ? What I mean is don't change any options, just go:Code: Select all

4 tries, happend every time (whenever Map preview was present, for challenges too).
Do you think it's the map preview ?
Seems to be the logical candidate.
By the way, 2.3 Beta10 is in every other respect a grand experience:
Best graphics & most stable performance I've seen so far in half a dozend wz versions ( so stable, I played and played and almost forgot to save the game )

Re: Skirmish issues on 2.3 Beta 10
It seems to me that it is a graphics driver issue which gets triggered by the map preview.
There isn't much we can do about driver issues, but since you have compiled the game you could try your luck by removing all the calls to "loadMapPreview," ( 3 in multiint.c and 1 in multiopt.c .)
