I like it. But one thing is not mentioned: VTOLs. I am just putting it on the table to make sure it is not being accidentally ignored. Personally, I think that their maneuver system is close to fine, but that light body VTOLs should turn slightly better than medium bodies. Currently, light fighters/strike fighters, including the Harrier Jump Jet, have greater maneuverability than any other type of aircraft, yet in WZ, larger VTOLs have better maneuverability than small ones. I would like to see a point in using small VTOLs over Medium VTOLs except cost.

The speed of a light VTOL is sometimes harmful, as it occasionally causes the VTOL to linger in enemy airspace, and get shot down when it should not have been, because it lingered and the enemy Flak batteries got a target lock on it.

This reminds me of another weird movement issue that I've noticed recently:
When given an order to move towards a point 20 degrees right of their current orientation, they will instead drive in a 340 degree circle to the left. Gets them going in the right direction eventually, but it's slow and causes havoc in close formations. I've noticed it several times, but not at all consistently. I believe it happens in both directions, although I wouldn't swear to it.

I suppose this is more of a bug report than an idea/suggestion, but it has to do with the discussion at hand so I figured I would bring it up.

I think the OP's idea is a good one. I only wish I had enough free time to tackle something as complex and beastly as movement code, or I'd give it a try.

This revers idea sounds cool, but, why?

the revers idea in some games was used because... Armour defense

Front Armour is 100%-70%, which the vehicle takes less damage, if hit directly and survive alot better
Side Armour is 60%-30% which attacked from the side would still survive, but would sustain a little more damage
Back Armour is 20%-0% which attack from behind, would take huge amounts of damage, destroying the tank much faster...

In this case, the reverse tactic would be very useful, if the Armour protection is in affect, if not, the reverse tactic, becomes usless
Back and working on more maps than before.

The whole point of reversing is to cause your units not to drive towards the enemy, and get out of their range quicker.

Are there any news regarding this topic? Its one of the very few things of WZ which annoy me.

I think every unit should have various states in which they react differently. A healthy unit which hasn't experienced aggression in the past 10 seconds would prefer the quickest movement possible, while a unit which is below 33% health AND has experienced fire in the past 10 seconds would prefer the quickest way to safety, hence retreating backwards.

Another factor should be whether the unit is inside a swarm or not. A tank in a big group should try to move in a way other units aren't affected too much. Well, this touches the topics "formations" and even "swarm intelligence", which are both indeed not trivial...

Idea: The capability to retreat backwards, creating formations or act as a swarm could be research topics, like "Combat Tactics I + II + III", and would depend on sensor research.

This seems as good a place as any to post a related idea: three point turns. If a wheeled or half-tracked vehicle's path is within the rear X degrees of its rear, make it move backwards and turn away from the path instead of moving forwards and turning towards the path.
