Says the guy who lost again me in a 1v1 and denies playing against me since then... :)

bah, we had a re-match on Fishnets.
He wouldn't play highground, because he claims one player has a shorter route to the high ground in the center (can anyone confirm this?).
I am completely unfamiliar with the 3rd 1v1 map.
I suggested Mountain, he didn't want to play that one.
I then suggested Valley, he didn't want to play that one.
He suggested a 4 player map I was completely unfamiliar with, I didn't want to play that one.
So I figured, fine, we'll just play Fishnets again.

He also wouldn't let me start on the same side of the map as he did on fishnets (in a north/south orientation, not north west/south east). I looked at the map, it looked like the left/west side (which he didn't want me to start on) had a shorter route to the center to me, I figured after the last game where I took the center ASAP, he would make a play for the center very early

I mentioned this, he suggested adding scavs to act as a buffer (but not switching positions), so its not the first person to get a truck (or truck and mg viper) to the center.
I agreed.
We didn't realize (or at least I didn't) that this also made the AI at the other locations appear - I have since realized that the AI "normal" bases that are auto-activated by turning on scavengers, are ridiculously easy to defeat- 2 mg viper wheels would do it....
And I hadn't started prepped to truck rush an AI, so I delayed in attacking the AI on my side (the AI didn't show up on the player screen), I guess Dylan finished off his AI a lot sooner than I did (knowing how weak the ai is when it is only "on" due to scavs, I would have taken the oil much sooner).

I also tried cybrogs, intending to take the center from the scavs, but he got there first, with hmg vipers, and trucks building structures, as I got my first few lancer scorpion hovers out, I saw he had a large force of python lancer hovers, I just didn't feel like continuing at that point, and conceded the game to him.

He claims startup is unfair.
I *know* high ground is uneven ( 1 extra oil, vs path overlooking enemy base)

I need to get myself a working map editor again, then I'll make a fair 1v1

Most of those cases, I was as uninformed as you.
In any case, yes, with this new map editor especially, we need new 1v1 maps! I'll get to work today - snow day. :)

@ Dylan Hsu an 3drts the best way to settle this would to play on a map neither one of you know, and thats got a good balance to it, I made a lot of 4 player maps that were up to this type of play, most of my Arctic maps were set up to test your skills with finding oil and keeping it, but you still had enough oil to get a fairly good start. Now when you get into issues like player 1 gets oil 4 or 5 tiles closer then player 3, thats just down right childish. I cant stay whats fair in stock maps, but I never counted tiles from base to base to make sure each player had the same number of tiles to oil. Unless you have a mirror image of a map on both sides you cant do that, now I did do that on some maps were I basically make 1/4 of a map then copy and paste it to the other 3 corners, but this is only a game, and if you want to test your skills and play on 3 to 5 maps over the next few days or weeks and see who wins the most games. Just because someone wins 1 game dont make them better then the other player, even I lost many of games over the years, and its more what you learn from them that matters.

the problem is when a map has a definite "center" that gives a definite oil advantage early on, the first person to get a tower up, usually wins if they are near equal in play style.
Now it has been changed so you can start on an MG viper as soon as you can build a tower, which helps, but it can still be a cluster f*k.
Thats why I agreed to the scav idea, I like the principle of scavs occupying the center, so one needs to build up an actual force before they can claim the center oil advantage.
I just didn't realize the AI appears at the other player positions when scavengers are turned on, and how shitty the AI is at those positions, I waited far too long to take it out, I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

but based on this thread, I'm 1 for 2 against him, daltx is 1 for 2 against him, I think that can put the title of this thread to rest as *busted* as they say on mythbusters.

Honest, this thread is childish.

Anyone ( which does not cheat ) wil loose games once in a while, nevertheless how good he is.
It depends on mapknowledge, gameplay knowledge and the ability to handle and produce pressure.
So just stating: "All others are crap!" is just infantile behavior.

Any good player knows that any strategy you play in wz can be counterbalanced and matched or even overruled in wz.
I need to admit that there are still some pretty good and experienced players out there.
And most of them still have honourable behavior too, some not. SIgh.
