Question about WZ ver. 2.2.2 w/ NTW mod

Post by NobleKnight »

So, I'm new to this forum, but I've played WZ for years and just recently started playing it some more since I've found all these new versions out now.

I downloaded and currently play version 2.2.2 with the NTW mod and my OS is Windows Vista 64-bit. I don't have any serious issues with this version, aside from occasional crashes to desktop issues after saving my place and going on to the next mission in campaign mode. I just have a few questions regarding it:

#1- I've noticed the advent of super-heavy bodies and a few other techs added to the tech tree since I've last played older versions. I've noticed these available in skirmish mode, but I can't find them in campaign mode. I've played through all three campaigns numerous times and I don't find any of these new techs in it. Are they not available in campaign mode (i.e. Dragon and Wyrven bodies, half-tracks 3, tracks 3, Commander upgrades, and various weapons)

#2- If they are not available in campaign mode, even through cheats like "give all" and "research all" (which I have used too), is there a way to get them on campaign mode, either through a mod or do the more recent versions like 2.2.4 and the 2.3 beta's have it available?

#3- I'm kind of new to the world of mods; do I have to have some sort of file managing program like winrar in order to get them installed in my WZ mods folder? I have a trial version but it is basically useless now, and I'm wondering if I have to purchase the license and all that in order to work with these mods. I notice many of them are in rar or .zip format. Are there any that aren't?

That's about it for now. I've thoroughly enjoyed this site. Thanks for all the time and energy you guys put into this.

The Dragon/Wyvern bodies, Commander upgrades, and various weapons are unique to multiplayer. I've been meaning to write an improved campaign with these technologies, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. :(

Out of curiosity, where did you find Half-tracks 3 and Tracks 3? Those are special propulsions available only to the AI in the campaign mode (unless you cheat).

It's indeed possible to get them using a mod, however, no one has made such a mod yet. :( Like I said, I'll eventually do it myself, but that's a pretty long-term kind of thing.

I don't know of any mods in RAR format. You don't need WinRAR to open ZIP files - Windows can open ZIP files by default; just uninstall WinRAR and you'll be fine. If you need to open RAR files for some reason, there's always 7-zip.

Mods should be in .wz format - installing them is simply a matter of moving them to your mods folder.

I thought as much.

Yeah, I did cheat a couple of times just to see if doing that would yield those techs. It's been a little while since I did it, but I believe that I used "give all" at the start of Gamma campaign and that allows you to research those upgraded track and half-track techs, as well as the superdense composite alloys for the vehicles and structures. If you do it at the start of Beta campaign, I believe you get half-tracks 2/tracks 2 and dense composite alloys.

I guess I just haven't been looking in the right locations. I haven't seen any to download in .wz format. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be great. Like I said, I'm new to mods and I'm not that big on them, but it would be nice to see what's out there that I could mess around with.

Thanks for your time.
