System Requirements on Download Page

Post by HolyKronos »

I was looking today in the download page the System Requirements area, and I don't quite think that just telling the operating system supported is enough, with some onboard video not working properly - or not working at all - with Warzone...

My suggestion is to make a survey, or at least, collect information about which video cards support WZ at some level, so people could know if the game will work or not. (A friend installed WZ in his pc, just to find out that his S3 chipset couldn't run it, and another friend notebook with an Intel GMA chipset could run it, but he couldn't visualize the maps in the skirmish menu, the only thing showing was the player's starting points).

For what it is worth, there is a thread of this in the forums...

Almost always the issue is with the gfx drivers. They should NOT go to windows update, instead go to AMD's or Nvidia's site or whatever to get updated drivers.
and it ends here.

The hardware requirements for WZ are not particularly demanding. One thing you *do* need, however, is a graphics card with good OpenGL support. ( note that 'graphics card' is really graphics card/on-board chipset + video driver)

S3 cards are famous throughout the solar system for their poor OpenGL. Intel on-board chips vary depending on the model and driver used.

Generic hints if you are having problems:
- update your video driver
- turn off compositing window managers and eye candy like Aero or compiz or KDE4 desktop effects
- turning down hardware acceleration sometimes helps.

Well, I've added "install the latest drivers" to the system requirements page. :) Do you think that's enough?
