Re: Increase draw distance
I read someplace that the trunk version is the one with all the eyecandy and the 2.x series will be for all the low end people.

Re: Increase draw distance
I'm pretty sure that most people can't afford to buy a faster computer every few years. Hence, if designed for high-end systems, the majority of people who play WZ would be unable to play the updates after a couple years and be stuck with the older versions.

What makes you so sure? dual cores are cheap as hell this days.

If you got a job, you can afford a dual core, its not everyday buy so i still dont see a problem. Those who dont have money i doubt they will be playing this :p.

Re: Increase draw distance
The CPU isn't the sole component of a computer. There is the graphics card, the fan/cooling system, the GPU, the hard drive, RAM, ROM, and the motherboard.
Also, I doubt many of the people here make a $500+ purchase lightly, or often if it is for something such as a new computer.
EDIT: Plus, one of the things that attracted many people(and possibly quite a few of the devs) is the fact that you don't need the newest, fastest computer to run this game. Now, I'm not arguing that the devs should deliberately keep it so that you can run WZ on a 1GHz computer when most computers that are less than eight years old have 2+ GHz processors. I'm just saying that most people don't buy a new computer every couple years.

Maybe you right but i still say that the game needs to do some steps foward, get a bit more complicated more fun or it'll die sooner or later.

Re: Increase draw distance
I say it needs a new engine in order to add stuff, because otherwise it won't run good regardless of the hardware. Besides, it's already lagged - a 6-player multi game has killed me off after 5 minutes because I had 2 FPS.

Re: Increase draw distance
Lag is usually due to the Internet connection, and the server hosting the game, not the game engine.

A lighter code for the game engine can make the whole thing run faster...
Just like happened with some of my programs, I just made the code lighter, (same functions in less lines) the whole thing always ran faster.

Warzone isn't some 12-year-old's weekend project, nor is it written in an interpreted language. "Lighter code" won't fix anything.Saberuneko wrote:A lighter code for the game engine can make the whole thing run faster...

Re: Increase draw distance
The issue with running WZ trunk is not CPU, but having a graphics subsystem with decent OpenGL support and performance. Laptops designed for email and web surfing have very low-end graphics chipsets (think $5 graphics card!). To some extent, you can make up for poor graphics with a fast CPU, but it is a losing game. Here is a simple explanation why from FlightGear, an Open Source flight simulator that uses OpenGL, just like WZ: 3D Video Introduction
(note: the 'newer' graphics cards like the nVidia GeForce they refer to have been around since ~2003 or so)

Re: Increase draw distance
Really? As I heard, it's written in C and C++, I'm right? maybe porting it to some other lighter one would make the whole thing more faster, trust me. I've seen ports from VB (yes, I know is crappy) to lua, and it really works faster.Zarel wrote:Warzone isn't some 12-year-old's weekend project, nor is it written in an interpreted language. And... what do you mean with "12-year-old's weekend project?"
