*** Power consumption ***
From my experience in games, there's an upper limit on the rate at which power can be pumped into projects (production, research, construction). This leads to painfully slow everything in T3 and endgames.
Can this instead increase with research? It needs to exist of course, for investment time is a factor in production, research, and construction times, but perhaps it could increase alongside building speed with Engineering upgrades.

Erm, power consumption is extremely fast; it really doesn't make much of a difference compared to actual build times, etc.

Yes it does... when you're trying to build alot of things at once. Play more!

Play more? You're talking to a developer. Then again, he really doesn't play much.
Bring back...ducks!

Re: *** Power consumption ***
rofl. Dylan plays more than any developer.
But we'll call the power thing a safeguard, to prevent speeds from getting too fast, and consequentially to prevent people who spam trucks from having too much of an advantage, etc.

Re: *** Power consumption ***
I have a slower system its a 1GHz P3, it works well enough to play warzone. I've noticed that if there is much more than nothing going on, accruing power is very slow sometimes. If there is more than one thing drawing fuel it divides this up even more. Playing against a faster system they don't have this issue. If I build an expensive fortress and I put 4 trucks on it, it usually takes much longer to accrue power than it does to build it. If playing skirmish accruing power is faster (per game second) if I turn the game speed down to minimum. It's almost like there is a low priority loop that cycles though things that want power and gives each one a unit of power, and on low speed systems this loop gets starved for CPU resources sometimes. My impression of this loop is so that everything gets and equal share of power, rather than one thing hogging all the power (like unit production) and starving another (research) from ever getting allocated any power. First thing that comes to mind to correct this would be to allocate more power per loop cycle. Or perhaps the code could just be optimized.

What are you guys talking about here?
The speed in which it takes the green "power" bar to progress before the yellow "production" bar starts?

if so, I agree, If one has the power to build a structure, it should take very little time for the green bar to advance, the yellow bar should be the one that takes the massive majority of the time.

I would like that too, but:einhander wrote:if so, I agree, If one has the power to build a structure, it should take very little time for the green bar to advance, the yellow bar should be the one that takes the massive majority of the time.

If the power accruing rate is system speed dependent, it strongly favors people with faster systems. I thought accruing power for building things had been combined into the building process, but nothing has changed as far as I can tell.

It was combined in 3.0.Ai_Tak wrote:I thought accruing power for building things had been combined into the building process, but nothing has changed as far as I can tell.

Any chance of a backport to 2.3?Zarel wrote:It was combined in 3.0.Ai_Tak wrote:I thought accruing power for building things had been combined into the building process, but nothing has changed as far as I can tell.
