Select Oil Resource Amount Before Match Start

Post by smallfly »

There are many games just being played because of the amount of oil resources. Many maps would be nice to play with a different amount of oil resources, so here is my suggestion:

In the multiplayer host menu (before game starts) you can select the density of oil resources, for example: 4, 8 or 16 at each player start position. That implies that a map creator places 16 oil resources at each player start position. The resources must have a priority, so that the computer knows which resources to delete, if less than 16 are wished.

That way, many more maps are more often played, cause the oil density it not longer an argument to play "rich maps" (with very very many oil resources)

Thanks for reading.

There is, I believe, a button before the game starts that determines how much every oil derrick produces. But if people are putting that on high instead of normal, with 16 starting oil derricks in the base…then hey, that’s how they roll there potatoes.

But with all these resources, it sort of blurs out the concept of strategy. Kind of like, just make as many tanks as you can, and send them off. But if people stated putting the resource level on normal, or even low, they will find that they have to scout more often to find out what the other person is doing, and create units to fight based on the gathered information.
It also forces players to chose from balancing between military, and research, depending on which is more important at the moment, or in the near future.

I think it might be easier to make a ‘very high’ and ‘very low’ settings on the beginning of starting a game. So if a map has 4 derricks, those might produce a much as 12 on very high, or 1 on very low.
What do you think?
