artillery damage modifier

Post by cheesepuffgd »

in warzone the artillery weapons do a lot of damage to cyborgs but not enough to tanks. modern artillery can toss a shell big enough to blow up an MBT (main battle tank) in one hit. the artillery should be classified as an all rounder weapon rather than an antipersonnel weapon. :ninja: that would make the game more balanced.

ah, but realism does not make for good gameplay.

Artillery is classified as an artillery weapon. ;)

The weapon table lists "artillery" separately from "all-rounder" or "anti-personnel". Artillery-type resembles all-rounder, except cyborg and tank effectivenesses are switched.

This is mostly for balance reasons, and is unlikely to change.

One of the most important discrepancies, between modern AFVs and the robotic AFVs featured in Warzone 2100, is armour and size.

AFVs in Warzone 2100 have extremely thick armour and heavy-duty engines, which is afforded by the lack of a crew cabin. The heavy chassis is also more economical than the medium MBT chassis because of future hybrid-electric drives, and an abundance of scrap metal in the post-nuclear wasteland.

Realism makes things intuitive. Fiction can be used to in moderation to make up good game play.

the artillery emplacements are a very effective form of defense but if the ground shaker could blow up heavier tanks easier, then it would make its low ROF worth it. but because it doesn't do enough versus tanks, it isnt very efective. an artillery defense would need a minimum of 10 ground shakers to be effective.

on a different note, Perhaps they could make an anti structure artillery weapon?

The only anti-structure weapon in Warzone 2100 is the Bunker-buster, primarily because it is the only HESH weapon.

HESH is not a viable warhead for artillery, because the cannon is not precise nor of sufficient velocity to spread the plastic explosive well.

A direct hit from a shell that would fire a few miles up in the air (considering scale) would at least bust up tanks weapon, let alone the whole structure!

Aerodynamic friction reduces the velocity of a projectile up to apogee, then proceeds to limit the terminal velocity.

A direct contact HE warhead will explode in a omni-directional sphere, thus at least half of the explosive force does not affect the target.
