And what if we give 'em flight capability ? ;) Frankly, I do believe once Mechs are fully developed and in-game... very few will wanna play WZ without 'em. The most vocal naysayers about any major change to WZ are really but a tiny minority of the total fan base. I'm sure in my bones that the vaster, silent majority, will take to these pups like ducklings to water. Now hows that for a mixed metaphor. O_o

Yup with existing Jump Borg support that would be a smooth development line and the MechWarrior games are good sources of inspiration as long as we keep in mind that these Mechs are not intended obsolesce WZs Tanks, Vtols or Borgs. Fitting into a balanced mix will be a big part of the challenge, IMHO.

I have also been mulling over Yves Rossy's efforts and exploits over the last couple years. Aka "Jet Man or Fusion Man", Yves has stirred other possibilities along the lines of Marvel's "Ironman" or the anime "Appleseed" series (many others as well) and even the classic "Iron Giant" comes to mind but I'm just not yet sure how feasible it would be to go that route over "Jump Packs".

For those not familiar with Yves "Jet Man's" accomplishments here are a YouTube link to the vids and also one to his official web site in English:

Well we could make rules
light scout two legs
can be equipped with jump jets & lowest cost for JJ's

Medium support two legs
can be equipped with jump jets & costs more; some weapons can not be equipped with JJ's

Heavy attack/Dfence two or three legs
can't can't can't be equipped with jump jets

Assault/ super heavy four legs
can't can't can't be equipped with jump jets; but isn't needed just walks up cliffs

Never played "Emperor Battle for Dune" but read a bunch a material on it after looking at your links and decided maybe I should get my hands on it and try it out. I am a huge fan of Frank Herbert's "Dune" novel, the David Lynch movie version and the Sci Fi Channel's mini-series "Children of Dune".

Well... there are very few games that appreciate in value the older they get and this is one (original release 2001) . A new copy ranges anywhere from $ 60 - $ 125.00 US. Cheapest USED I saw was $ 20.00 Hmmm... I'll have to look further into it.

In any case I can tell what you mean by your referencing "Emperor Battle for Dune" in Mech Balancing.

Another good one. :)

That you have first order talent and skills is obvious, XANAX. What your goals are is none of my business but I can't help but see that you also clearly possess that whole other set of character traits essential to making a professional career of it, getting paid well and still having fun. That total package is rare and highly valued in many a business involving art & artistry. Anyway...

I remember that Shai-Hulud was marvelous in "Emperor Battle for Dune" game, comparing with the original "Dune" game xD

Btw, you didn't mentioned the "Dune" series, just the film ;)

I only have seen the Lynch movie. And the only series I have seen is "Children of Dune". I guess I should get my hands on the "Dune" mini-series DVDs and watch 'em. Holiday weekend coming up might be perfect for that - while i do some more on advancing WS. :)

On a side bar: All the material I've read on the "Emperor Battle for Dune" game makes a point of mentioning the incredible amount, and quality, of the cut-scene, FMVs, the art of which was heavily inspired by the David Lynch movie's total art design

For me a big part of War School project is the "Truce" FMV I'm making alongside and so I'm really all into checking out "Emperor Battle for Dune" FMVs.

I'm also allowing for "The Blue Screen / Green Screen / Chroma Keying" in my "Truce" vid work so I can shoot and edit-in Machinima footage of your guys new art work I shoot in action in the WZ binary.

A quick off topic, under what os was this screen taken? That's an interesting ui.
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

I like the Dillon M134 Gatling gun
I've made one but the barrels got messed up on export & there were to many faces
I'll make the barrel 8 vertices instead of 12 that might help

Cool. I'll look into it. One thing I did come across was that the new Gone Gold distro of the game includes a very critical patch to the game working properly on XP - which is my current flavor of Win on all my boxes.

it does inspire, don't it ;)

That is truly fine work. Overall impact and then in the interesting articulated details. Extraordinary, really. xD
Thanks that means a lot xD
Just calling it as I see it. For me like saying - "It's a beautiful clear night and the constellations are especially etched in the sable firmament like coruscating jewels." That's a bit of "purple prose" I can live with. ;)

oh here it is textured

Arresting variety of detail.. Have to watch for what kinda hit the FPS takes with a mass of these in action by a bunch of players deploying 'em.

Along the lines of my previous comment - gotta bare in mind the hit on the FPS with a mass of these in action. 'Course if dynamic LOD were in the mix it would be a different story - but so would the amount of work needed on the art side pipeline.

I'll look up the Dillon M134 Gatling gun. On the anchient history side of things - back in the NEWST days we made a Dr. Reed "Gundam" that wielded twin Gatling guns for the Mangodai Campaign we were then working on. I'll see if I can find any of that art in my archives. If I remember correctly, it's been so long, we used "creative scripting" for it be able to wield a weap in each "arm" simultaneously... Would that be necessary these days ? I dunno.
