Lunatics of War - Building Limits MOD

Post by Powzone »

The "Lunatics of War - Limits MOD"

This .ZIP file includes:
LOW-Limits_1.10.wdg (The "source" if you want to call it like that)
LOW-Limits_2.1.X.wz (The converted file by Troman, that can be found above)
LOW-Limits.README.txt (I wrote it, 'cause there was none!!) ;)

I'm trying to contact somebody from LOW to talk about the licensing as it can be considered "stealing", but what happens here is converting. Everybody involved is credited properly with as much info as possible from the LOW site. I hope, somebody of them will answer my e-mail I've sent, a few hours ago. Otherwise if somebody knows one of them and is still in contact, let him or me know about it!

If Troman or anybody else with "the magic skills" could manage to convert this to the 2.2.X version, can call himself lucky to add his name and stuff in the readme file where it says:

<YOUR NAME HERE> (Example)(Example)

Have fun with this!! :D

Well, I still got no answer from LoW! :(

Isn't really nobody interested in converting it or is somebody already doing it?

I will convert it... but expect me to take my time as i am lazy.

Also i should tell you the mod does not increase truck limits... (the script does not mention anything about trucks)

If you want other changes let me know.
For example i could increase max research labs allowed etc. I can also add new structures to the limits screen.

I already noticed that. Somehow I had in mind, that you only could build 10 trucks... Dunnow why... :)

That would be fine. When it comes research labs, they are maxed to 7. Playing with 7 labs, you still need around 4 hours to research anything from T1. 10 should fit nicely. Also you can change what you like and think can change MP gameplay. Maybe long range artillery or something like that. :)

hmmm... why limits... limits are bad... cant we have a no limits mod?

No limits for buildings... no limits for units... no limits for anything... limits are a bad thing... you should be able to do what your money allows you to, after all strategy comes when you think strategically, and building 20 research labs from the mere beginning will likely only get you killed really soon.

i would only adjust the price on some structures that are way too useful as to have 20 of them if you really don't have that much resources. Maybe a Laser Satellite Command Post that cost 50k and the Satellite Uplink Center that cost 25k, or something like that...

Thats true, but this is doing right the opposite. In the original MOD you can adjust alot of buildings already. This is to make things even harder or easier for everybody. I don't know about coding, so all I can do is sit here and wait... ;)

If Raem_Lylar can take a closer look, maybe the far right position on the sliders can be used as "unlimited" and the pre-position like "20". I don't know... It's just a nice MOD made from the old days and it's fun to play in MP. You need alot of different strategies be victorous!

actually making a no-limits mod its quite easy, just delete some code.

And making a more limits for buildings mod is as easy as well, just look for the structure name on names.txt, and add some variables to one side, and some limit numbers to the other, peace of cake.

i might do my no limits mod when i get home.

It is done, let me know if anything doesn't work right. And read the file Raem's Notes.

Edit: I forgot to mention you don't have to worry about licensing, there is no original work in the mod.
So it falls into GPL. (i think)

It really depends. If all the mod did was change a few numbers, then no, no need for licensing. If there was anything creative involved, then it's copyrighted, and licensing gets all annoying. :/ You can still redistribute it, though, no worries.

I got the 1.10 version, too. I will install it and make a research on what buildings are added there with some numbers in a new TXT-file. In the 2.1.X conversion nothing was changed, so I will add a changelog into the readme, too. ;)

Could take moment... Got an "Aerobics House Mix" to finish today... :D

Huh? Elaborate on that, because my conversion works perfectly... on its own.

Its the file called LOW-Limits_2.2.x.wz.

Package has been updated.
- Added "Raem's Notes.txt" to "LOW-Limits.README.txt".
- Removed the 2.1.X version, because of unfunctinality.
- Added a more specific description on what it changes.

No you can't. This mod needs to be modified for the 2.3.9 and 3.1 branch. I saw you're German. You got a PM! ;)

Also the unit limits would need to be added...
