Slow savegames wanted
I've heard some complaints that the game slows down during play so that when you click to send a unit somewhere, it takes several seconds before it reacts. This would be due to slow path-finding when there are lots of units doing things. In order to fix this, I need a savegame that can demonstrate this problem. If you have one for 2.2 or later, please send it to me, or attach it to this thread. Then I may be able to improve it. Note that I do not at this time want a savegame that demonstrates a sound- or graphics-related slowdown.
Thank you

Re: Slow savegames wanted
you mean the 'pause' before moving?
if so, its not a 'bug' limited to wz2100...
i have seen it from oTA to warfront to C&C generals.
even C&C retaliation for the psx had it.
admittedly, older games seem to suffer more.

Yes, it is not really a bug in that sense, more like code that is insufficiently well designed to handle the path-finding load. I have some ideas on how to improve it, but I need some example of it not working properly first.psychopompos wrote:you mean the 'pause' before moving?

Re: Slow savegames wanted
i never figured it for being just in the path finding, but more of a bottleneck due to the hardware not being able to deal with all the calculations the game was putting through mid game.
unfortunately, i havnt seen this issue in campaign because there isnt really enough going on to tax my new system.
an 8 way skirm on one of the larger maps(that big maze map?) will probably give better results.
---
this save has a very slight delay on my old P4ht 2.2ghz system.
send the units to home/lz
the terrain bottleneck just north of where i put the units also lets you see another 2 issues with the current code.

Re: Slow savegames wanted
This is my slow savegame. Tech1 8-cConcrete with 7 becomepreys. I hadn't been playing for 15 minutes before my units took forever to move. It sure was hilarious to see my new cyborgs march in place for 4 seconds before heading for the delivery point.
System specs: Pentium 4 at 3Ghz with Hyperthreading, Radeon HD 4350, 1 GB DDR RAM, Windows XP.
Despite my aging processor, it didn't appear that my system was being pushed near its limits. Hope this helps.

Re: Slow savegames wanted
I had a few games doing that to me, incredible lag, nothing hardly moving.
Odd thing is, when I hit the pause button, it cleared up completly
This was with an online game, but just me and 3 Ai playing it. Of course the game never paused, but the lag dissapeared

Can you attach a savegame of such a game?Aldure wrote:I had a few games doing that to me, incredible lag, nothing hardly moving.

Re: Slow savegames wanted
I have noticed this as well, I was playing on a map that I made with 7 Become-Prey AI's and after about 10-15 mins, my units would slow to a crawl, and move only after a large delay, however the AI did not seem to suffer from this, making it hard for me to properly defend myself even with an ally. I would post the save game but the map I made has not been posed on here. (still need to work out some problems with it, most notably the fact that savegames do not work on it.)

hmm, the extension .es is not allowed is the message I got trying to attach it.
I had to copy the .es to the folder of final save, and zip it up to get it here.

Re: Slow savegames wanted
give me a few days and I'll have a few, I've seen this several times, buts its almost random, so I'll have to go back and look at my save games (I have about 50 of them all in various stages and mod usage, some with this bug, so I'll have to go digging).
As for BP lagging with 7v1, I think I'm kind of stating the obvious when I say that BP's more advanced AI takes considerably more processing power then the standard AI, on top of the increased processing power used to fight a normal 7v1 fight.

Re: Slow savegames wanted
I've noticed the game itself lag when you have a ton of units. But that's most likely from low ram (i only have 256 megs, but it always runs fine).
Speak softly, and carry a pair of lancers.
