Here is a Step By Step Instruction for EditWorld

Post by 2frame »

i have finally gotten the edit world wroking. here is a step by step instuction on how to get it. i will provide some links at the end for tutorials and the program itself. i will assume you kno how to use a computer for this tutorial.

1. Download the installer. Once you have it, run it. it is a very basic installer. you will come accross a step asking where to save it. i suggest saving it in the root of your c drive, which is normally "C:\". i also suggest saving it in a folder named something like WZ_editworld32. so the path should look something like this "C:\WZ_editworld32". if you havent already made a folder named that i suggest doing it now before you save the program. Also download the attachment on this post, unzip it, and place it in the editworld directiory. if it says there is already a file with the same name, which it most likely will, click replace.

2. Once you have installed it, there will be a file in the location that u saved it (hopefully where i said to save it) called "Beta World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta". it is a compiled html document. should be easy to find. that will tell you how to set up your directories.

3. In the root program directory for edit world is the exe. right click it and make a shortcut. put that shortcut on the desktop so you can get to it quicker.

4. If you haven't done so already, i suggest reading all the tutorials on edit world for help on how to use it. links are at the bottom.

5. You should be good to go. please post any and all errors that show up here so someone can help you, but read all other posts to make sure your problem hasnt been addressed already.

Reason: Deleted attachment of the file, since I have no idea where you got it. We have enough sticky threads on this topic (see my post)

.

There are a handful of issues with 32EW that come up over and over, year in and year out, that this does NOT in any way address. Thus there are major gaps, IMO.

Fortunately, those gaps are all addressed in the following thread:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3220&start=15

If the install provisos from that thread were to be integrated within this framework it would be useful. As it is now this "step by step" takes too much for granted and really assumes "a best case scenario" which is actually the root of many of the problems peeps have had over and over, ad nauseum...

I have to agree with whippersnapper, if you are going to make a "step by step' thread (for which I am all for), then it needs allot more info as was mentioned.
The other main thread for this is viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1618&start=0

I also have deleted the attachment you had, since I have no clue where you got that one from...

For now, I will unsticky this thread, and when it is complete, we can then sticky it, or merge it into the main one.
and it ends here.
