I want to add a link to the above on the EditWorld32 wiki Intro page. I can't access the page: can someone do it for me.
Add a few words to the effect that this is the (long-awaited) Manual foe EW32.

many thanks in anticip...

It's since been resolved (and the pages renamed), I believe.

I tried it earlier today, of course, and just now again. Same. If it's an entirely different link.... the old one should be re-directed and / or the new one posted here and the old one removed. I think O_O

According to your Reg Edit pic you have NO Directories set-up after you installed O_o

Should look like this:

Image

And exported as a text file so you can see it all:
Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Warzone 2100 Development Project\EditWorld\Directories

Class Name: <NO CLASS>

Last Write Time: 6/12/2009 - 10:25 PM

Value 0
Name: Project
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta

Value 1
Name: DataSet
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta\SAMPLES

Value 2
Name: HeightMap
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta\SAMPLES

Value 3
Name: Brush
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta\DATA

Value 4
Name: TileType
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta\SAMPLES

Value 5
Name: FinalMap
Type: REG_SZ
Data: C:\Program Files\WarZone 2100 World Editor 32 bit -128 by128 -png Beta\Newmaps

BUT when you first launch 32EW you have to set-up the Directories by pressing that little SD button like so - from the looks of your Reg Edit screen cap it looks like you did NOT do this....

Huh? What sample file in what folder? This is all about changing registry entries. The best way of doing this is to use the dialog provided by lav_coyote25.

Have you read the new EditWorld pages on the WIKI yet? It's all clearly explained there now. If need be, start all over again. Uninstall and reinstall EW32, then follow the instructions in the Manual on the WIKI, then read the tutorials and make us some great maps...

here you will find a list of directories for various elements. The only one of interest is the directory reference for PROJECT. You will see that the dir listed is "SAMPLES". It should be the installation directory itself, so simply delete "/SAMPLES".
That SAMPLE FIle

Hmmm.... looks like we posted simultaneously so I'll speak to your very last post first in this edit..

EDIT:
Firechkn34 wrote:ok well i set up the directories and i still get an (error reading PCX) when i try to do a new map!?!?!?!?!? what is the problem now?
Are you sure (as per my own posted export text above) your "value 0 - Project" directory in Reg Edit is NOT pointing to the "SAMPLES" folder instead of the 32EWc .Executable folder itself???

------------------------------------------------->Now to my original text........

@ Firechkn34 : Did you follow the last post I made ? Frustrating, I know, but this is probably the last hurdle to just having fun with the editor.

It may very well complete the journey we started-on a few days ago in that other thread:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2840&p=32759#p32759

------------------------------------------------->

I will now elaborate a little more on my "Hmmm".....

The 32EW docs/manual covers much ground quite well but we've come upon a few key gaps, it seems, like mentioning the essential need for a resident C++ Redistributable Runtime for 32EW to even run, in addition to the original "editworld32" executable HAVING to be upgraded to the current "editworld32c" executable ...... and then there is this following line, as critical as this step is, I think could benefit all newbies to 32EW by having an illustrative graphic of the procedure like the one I posted:
When you first open EW32, click on the right-most tool bar button. This will bring up a dialog that allows you set the directories for EW32 elements. The only one you need to amend is that for PROJECT. Do this by selecting the root installation folder (that is, rather than the SAMPLES folder).
Here I'll reprise the graphic to be sure the point is made on this latest turn::

Image

You all are probably thinking:

"Well, whip, why don't YOU go ahead and make the changes to the 32EW wiki manual page ?"

I could but I've already committed to making changes to the wiki's Text Editing Mods page (which I've already begun) and frankly I have to draw the line somewhere. However, I'm open to trading off those tasks. ;)

Lastly, as I noted earlier on this page, the INVALID link in this thread ----http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/EditWorld32beta .... well it has has been changed to the following CORRECT link (and there is NO re-direct from the old link) :

http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/EditWorld32Manual

ok sorry about all of the problems, but i got another one. in the pic you posted lest time it show to set up the directories in

C:/Program Files/WarZone 2100 World Ed........

I don't have a folder in my programs folder named that(warzone 2100 world editor)

closest i got is a Warzone 2100 folder (as shown below)
Screenshot_1.JPG
so maybe that is the problem?
