Pause in Skirmish design screen request

Post by guciomir »

Could you please make the single player skirmish game pause while in the design screen? everything is happening so fast that i don't have time to design my tanks properly. Or am i missing something and there is already button to make the pause in the design screen?

There's no button but you can slow the game speed to 0.3 by pressing ctrl + - while you're in the design screen and maybe that would help.

It's supposed to get you used to the idea of multiplayer gameplay. Just try to improve your design time - you shouldn't be thinking about your designs too much in the design screen, anyway, you should already be thinking "I'm going to make a Lancer Scorpion Tracks" before you actually go into the design screen.

i am a kind of guy who loves to compare the numbers, try different combinations, see in what ways is HMG better than MG (numbers!), see what the upgrade did (numbers!), see how the stats are changing and read about all researches (even though i know more or less what they do).
Now it is impossible :( and designing becomes useless. I'll be designing only 5-10 units all the time instead of thousands of them. The game becomes less interesting when i have to use "standard" designs like Lancer Cobra Tracks. I'd like to compare Lancer Cobra Tracks to Lancer Mantis Halftracks and read the difference (numbers). The way it works now, i don't have time to do it, so i stick to 1 design and do not try others.

Another thing: no-pause in skirmish means that the player must know all technologies by heart. If some novice decides to play the game, it will be very hard for him to understand everything.

It would be great for me (and for other players who think in similar way as above) if we can pause the game in single player skirmish just like in campaign. What do you think about it?

I hear ya about the utility of "designing" when pressed to "switch-task" combat duties and can also relate in the following way.

Modders and developers need to be able to follow a similar course when initially testing modifications (let's call it "Alpha Phase" testing) which would precede an Open Beta in MP, for example. What we make use of to do this is called "Debug Mode". Perhaps a 'Pause Button' would be more convenient in this instance - it's hard for me to say really as I have gotten thoroughly used to using "Debug Mode" for so long to achieve these same ends and actually prefer the game to continue at a 0.1 pace rather than come to a complete stand-still. But that's just a personal pref and nothing more.

I'm not entirely sure what all would be involved right now to adding such a "Ski Pause Button" but I suspect it will be more desirable to accomplish when "BetaWidget" is completed and fully implemented. One of the Devs could better speak to that. 'Course the CAM "Pause" doesn't have a dedicated "Button" - you simply press the "Design" button. It's been so long since I played the retail version of WZ but i don't remember being able to "Pause" it that way.

You can often do the calculations ahead of time. There are tables all over the place in guide.wz2100.net (the formulae for things like HP and weight aren't published, but they're fairly straightforward to figure out - most of them are just base * upgrade percentage).

And if you don't want to analyze stuff like that in-depth out-of-game, well, it's not any different in-game, so you shouldn't be spending that much time in the Design screen anyway. ;)

I spend a lot of time designing my tanks in campaign, because it is fun. If the design screen pauses in a similar way in single player skirmish, than i would spend a lot of time designing my tanks there. It would be a lot of fun for me.

I will rather not browse through website with calculator, it is not so easy (creating an excel or calc sheet with a hundreds of formulas). It is so user unfriendly... i will try to slow game as Whip suggested, it is the only workaround for me :(
