I noticed that I am listed as having joined today. FYI, I have tried at least six times to register in the last couple of weeks, saved all the info, waited for the confirming e-mail. Which never came until today after I tried again (I don't give up easy!) and the confirming e-mail showed up and I was able to get into the forums.
I wonder how may others are having this same problem and don't come back after the first or second try? With all of the macho programmers around you'd think someone would come up with a little more user friendly system! (Did that push your button? I sure hope so!)

Re: Registering for the Forums
I suspect the weak link in the process is the confirmation messages being eaten by the spam filters that ISPs use to protect the innocent and clueless users.
If you think up a more clever method to keep forum bots out and lets humans in and doesn't require manual intervention, let us know. The world awaits a brilliant solution.

Did you check your spam folders? Warzone forums used to be fine, but I think Gmail recently decided that we were spamming.pianofritz wrote:I noticed that I am listed as having joined today. Sorry, we don't really think of ourselves as macho (you must be thinking of athletes, not programmers). Feel free to challenge Google not to spam-bin us with that kind of logic, though; it could be useful.pianofritz wrote:I wonder how may others are having this same problem and don't come back after the first or second try? Re: Registering for the Forums
As a matter of routine, I go through ALL the supposedly spam messages that G-mail puts aside. I occasionally find something that should have been passed but not too often. I did not see anything at all from warzone2100 during the last two weeks that I was tryng to register.
Since I've been accessing the Internet since 1991, probably longer than many of you have been alive, I've noticed a real penchant amongst the "experts" to blame problems on your computer, your ISP, your e-mail client etc etc etc. Could that possibly be the case here?

Strange. I have no idea, then.pianofritz wrote:As a matter of routine, I go through ALL the supposedly spam messages that G-mail puts aside. Well, what else would we blame problems on? Everyone else seems to have registered for the forums just fine (I'm not sure how you did, but I have a feeling it involved receiving an e-mail).pianofritz wrote:Since I've been accessing the Internet since 1991, probably longer than many of you have been alive, I've noticed a real penchant amongst the "experts" to blame problems on your computer, your ISP, your e-mail client etc etc etc. Could that possibly be the case here?
See, you see people blaming problems on external things a lot because if we knew it were our own fault, we probably would have fixed it by now.

Re: Registering for the Forums
Some of us have been building the Internet since 1991 or so. We have decent understanding of just where and how things can go wrong. Most people have no idea how many parts are involved. The differences between supposedly 'identical' systems can be boggling. Quite often, the problem *is* you, your computer, your ISP, your e-mail client, etc, etc.Since I've been accessing the Internet since 1991, probably longer than many of you have been alive, I've noticed a real penchant amongst the "experts" to blame problems on your computer, your ISP, your e-mail client etc etc etc. Could that possibly be the case here?
