How do I convert WZ files to Zip files?

Post by Arreon »

I read a thread on the mapping/modding forum about the tech tree. It mentioned something about converting WZ files to Zip files to modify the contents. I'm interested in creating new templates for the AI, maybe even structures (like the concrete HMG Guard Tower or HPV Cannon Guard Tower).

It told me that I had to rename the file from WZ to Zip, and then extract the contents.

So I rename the file and nothing happens. Can someone help me?

Yes. After you rename the file, nothing happens. That's when you extract the contents.

(We get the silliest questions sometimes...)

More seriously, after you rename the file from modname.wz to modname.zip, it should be able to be opened simply by double-clicking it on Windows.

I renamed the file to "file.zip", and I tried to extract the contents, but I couldn't. There was no extract button. I double-click on the file and I get the exact same text as I started with :gonk: . I even sent the file to a Zipped folder and unzipped it again, but all I gained was another folder and duplicates of the file.

I'm an idiot. :D

Zarel (or someone), can you please give me step-by-step instructions on how to do this? I have trouble learning from long strands of information.

Um... do you have .wz registered, and Windows set to hide registered extensions? Turn it off; see: http://www.terryscomputertips.com/compu ... nsions.php

What version of Windows are you using?

Can you upload the file here? I can rename it for you, and we'll see if that works.

I tried to insert the file, but I got this message:

Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.

It was 700KB. It was the mp file.

By the way, I'm using Windows XP.

Thanks, Zarel! It works now. Now I can make all the templates I want (provided I learn the language).

:lecture: easier, you select the files you want to extract and drag near the START button, all windows will be minimized, then drag the files to the desktop ....... simple !!!!!
