Crash to Desktop on 2.2.1 Release

Post by Jonas »

I've downloaded the latest 'stable' 2.2.1 Release a few days ago, and while fun I've encountered two bugs. First being missing sound in certain briefings (which I notice have already been reported), second and more distressingly seemingly random crashes to desktop requiring an extensive save and reload strategy. Occasionally if a save was made just before a crash the event repeats, but that also seems to be random. I even tried a fresh uninstall/reinstall but the issues persisted hence the post. I still seem to have the previous saves though, and can throw one up if needed.

I've suffered a crash to desktop with no visible error messages or warnings in the following situations through Beta-2:
1. When viewing research tech reports
2. When issuing attack orders
3. When issuing move orders
4. When issuing board transport orders
5. During mission briefings.

System Specs:
XP Home 32 Bit with SP3
Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ 3.21 Ghz
3.25 Gig of ram
1TB Hard Drive
ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe Motherboard
ASUS Geforce EN9800GT Vidcard with 512Mb of onboard DDR3 ram

Any crash dumps?
For the most part, if the game crashes with no crash dumps, then it is a driver issue. Could be sound or video driver, but usually video.

What Buggy means is, do you have a warzone2100.RPT file in Program Files/Warzone 2100/? If you do, please upload it here.

Yes I should have read the bug reporting faq a bit closer it seems and unless saved games are dumped in an oddball directory, despite them showing up still in WZ I can't find them for the life of me. As for the driver issue Nvidia just released a new driver on June 18th, downloading now but I won't be able to check if it fixes the issue until tonight when I get back home.

I've got the exact same problem :S
And even more annoying as I don't save my games as it doesn't occur to me until it crashes.

First thing, update to 2.2.1.
Next, most of those crashes are from driver related issues.
Oh, and no need to zip up the warzone2100.rpt file.

Don't need savegames, need warzone2100.rpt file. Located in the same directory as you installed warzone to.
and it ends here.

Done. The only 2.2.1 crash is the last one on the RPT file. Thanks btw for helping.

Ok, updated to the actual 2.2.1 Release* and installed the newest driver for my vidcard. I'll give it a spin tonight and toss up another post about what happens good or bad.

*Turns out I still had the 2.2.0 Installer on my desktop and didn't look too close at which one I had clicked.

Do you got a savegame or something that I can use to reproduce this? Or instructions on how to make it crash?
You seem to be getting the same error over & over...

You are not having the same problem as Jonas.

Well the saved game i have right now, It crashes like a couple of minutes after restoring, and it won't go past that point now. Where is the file to send to you, which would have the saved game?

Had my first crash on Alpha 1 with 2.2.1 after updating my vid driver this morning, specifically after taking out the third scavenger base and scrolling back up to view said area.

It is the savegamename.gam savegamename.es (if exists), and everything in the savegamename directory. And 'savegamename' is the name you named the savegame, in case it isn't obvious. ;)
and it ends here.
