Custom Maps Aren't Loading

Post by Trace_Katarei »

When I put the .wz files into the c:\.....\Documents\Warzone 2100 2.2\maps and then I start up WZ and load one of the custom maps the game decides that its going to crash, and drops me back to the desktop. Is there anything I can do to prevent that? None of the custom maps load, it isn't just a single map. Please Help....thanks

correct me if i am wrong... you have xp or vista - and your placing the .wz files in the wrong place. you have to find the folder containing the warzone.exe.... and then you will either find / or have to make the maps folder.... try looking in the "C:\Warzone 2100 2_2_2trunkrc1\warzone2100.exe" or it could be under the programs folder.... try either...unless you remember where you installed it.

for linux or mac -i am truly sorry but i can help you there - i dont have access at this moment to either.

Um... get rid of the custom map that's causing the problem?

Okay. You're wrong. Trace is putting the files in the right place, and you're putting them in the wrong place.

Well Lav, I am running vista *sigh, but according to the FAQ I was supposed to put them in the warzone2.2 sub directory inside documents...however when I tried creating a maps folder in the the Warzone directory it crashed same as before. Don't get me wrong I love this game and everything you guys did with it and I'm perfectly content to play stock maps I was just wondering if anybody else had the same problem.

What map is this?
Where are the crash logs/ error logs (*.rpt & stderr.txt in the same location as your warzone2100.exe is)

Putting them in maps/mapname.wz is correct.
and it ends here.

Thanks for the info.
The error is:

Code: Select all

iV_ProcessIMD micapsul.pie: only png textures supported ...
Looks like you got the wrong version of the map.

Use this thread, these are known to work:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2707

BTW, you *really* should uninstall Warzone 1.x, or at least, use different directories.
Program: C:\Games\Pumpkin Studios\Warzone 2100\warzone2100.exe(warzone2100)
Command line: "C:\Games\Pumpkin Studios\Warzone 2100\warzone2100.exe"
The maps could be fine, but you are mixing directories with the old commercial version of the game, and this one, and you should not be doing that!
and it ends here.

"Wrong" is such a strong word. Both places should work, it's just a matter of taste (or "first working solution").

I didn't install 2.2 in the same directory as wz v1.11, I unistalled my v1.x and then deleted the folder and then installed it in the same directory just because I have it bookmarked.

It was in reply to Lav saying: "and your placing the .wz files in the wrong place."

This is incorrect since Documents/Warzone 2100 2.2/maps/ is a right place. In fact, it's the recommended place (by the FAQ and other help files), so we should be standardizing on that.

It should be "configdir"/maps. Where "configdir" varies based on the platform you are on.

The main reason why, is that, that special directory is the *only* one physfs has write access to. So when you play a MP game, and someone don't have the map, then it will write the directory to "configdir"/maps.

You can also override "configdir" via the --configdir directory_name command line / shortcut option. Just make sure that directory_name is a valid directory first.
and it ends here.

Okay, see, that is nitpicking. What I did? Not nitpicking. <_<
