Newest trunk build automatically closes when starting game
I just installed the newest trunk build to see if it would work on my computer. The game starts up and the menu and stuff loads, but when I try to play a game like in Campaign mode or Skirmish mode, the game just automatically closes. I think I posted about this before, but I didn't have what the error in "stderr" file was. Now I have what it is:
error |04:26:18: [seq_Play] unable to open 'sequences/cam1/c001.ogg' for playback
error |04:26:18: [rebuildSearchPath] Failed to remove path C:\Program Files/data/\ again
error |04:26:18: [rebuildSearchPath] Failed to remove path C:\Program Files/share/warzone2100/\ again
error |04:26:18: [texLoad] Max supported texture size 1024x1024 is too low - reducing texture detail to 64x64.
I don't think this is a problem with my graphics card. Just in case, here are my computer specs:
AMD Sempron 3000+
448 MB RAM
VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP graphics card

Re: Newest trunk build automatically closes when starting game
Actually, it most likely *is* a problem with your graphics card. VIA/S3s are famous for their poor OpenGL support. You are combining this with the trunk code which places greater demands on the graphics subsystem than 2.2. (it *is* pretty, though!).I don't think this is a problem with my graphics card. Just in case, here are my computer specs:
AMD Sempron 3000+
448 MB RAM
VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP graphics card
Possible fixes:
* If you are running Vista, turn off Aero
* update/roll back graphics driver
* play with reducing Warzone screen resolution and texture size
* reduce color depth
* turn down hardware acceleration
* buy a new graphics card - even the cheapest nVidia card will do better than your current one.
It wouldn't hurt to have a little more memory in that machine, either.

I've updated my graphics card but that doesn't help. I'm using XP. I also have WZ set at the lowest resolution and I tried it with texture size as 32, but still doesn't work. How do I turn down hardware acceleration?
I'll probably be getting a new computer soon though.

AFAIK, anything higher than a AMD/ATI Radeon 9600 or a Nvidia 7600 should work with trunk, and those are pretty old cards...
and it ends here.

I mean like I updated my graphics card drivers to see if it worked better.

but it still is a via/s3 shared memory graphics card

That's not old! I had an Nvidia 6600 GT just last year... It ran Oblivion with no problems!Buginator wrote:Updated to what?

My Radeon 9600XT works nice with trunk (with the Mesa-driver, that's slower than Ati's original).Buginator wrote:AFAIK, anything higher than a AMD/ATI Radeon 9600 or a Nvidia 7600 should work with trunk, and those are pretty old cards...

Nah, it's only half a lifetime. A lifetime would be something like a GeForce2 (which played 1.10 mad fast, I might add).Buginator wrote:A 5+/4 year old card isn't old? That is a lifetime in technology terms.

I would hope a GF2 could play 1.1.0.Zarel wrote: Nah, it's only half a lifetime. A lifetime would be something like a GeForce2 (which played 1.10 mad fast, I might add).
Though, with Nvidia, and there constant renaming of their old products to "newer" products it is just a huge PITA. 8800 becomes 9800, then we got the "new" GTX 280 series, which still share the same core as the 8800... :rolleyes:
and it ends here.
