im not sure thats really such a bad thing.Directly making cannons into indirect fire will make them CB targets (which really sucks), so this is the best solution.
if they fire in high enough arcs, and the round goes through the sensor dome of the senser, CB should see them, or at least the location they fired from.
i may be wrong, but i feel that THEL type systems & direct CB function may one day make it into wz.
by late game the mg tech isnt good for much, so having the assault gun tanks target incoming long range projectiles makes sense to me.
that would be a significant feature for any game.
especially wz with such emphasis on long range/arty.
that also plays into much of what rman(i think) said he wants to see incorporated from irl combat ethos.
in reference to the weapon ranges.What do you mean by streamlining the cannon/arty transition?
120mm cannon & 105 howie shouldnt be so far apart for range really.
i believe there should be a more balanced increase in range from the mg > lgt can > med can > hvy&HV can > howitzer.
they already have the target specialization distinguishing best targets.
tank guns, being more likely to have sabot rounds, better at Armour penetration but less splash damage.
arty, more likely to have HE rounds, less able to penetrate hard targets but much greater splash damage.
