Didn't mean to be snarky; was just pointing out some comment spam.

Although seeing Zarel not only argue with a spambot ("it wasn't that informative") but attempting to refute a tautology ( "Some games use RPS style balancing, and some games don't") was worth the price of admission.

To be fair to me, I knew it was a spambot; I was arguing with Rman's acknowledgement that it was informative (yeah, yeah, I won't deny that I was asking for an argument there). And it's not a tautology if you interpret the word "some" to mean "more than zero", which is what I clearly did.

near worthless to boot and thus ignoring it all would be the best option. You live and learn every moment above ground, that

Well, perhaps "assume" wasn't the right word, but "digging up a very old thread", "posting a generic compliment that could apply to nearly any thread", and "linking to a spammy site" is a pretty good sign of spambot.

We understand that someone without the experience of having to delete spam semi-constantly might not consider such a combination suspicious, so we were really just pointing out that it was spam rather than accusing anyone.

shape or form which is an indicator itself, I would say, of a disingenuous motivation or pure ignorance of the subjects raised or
both.. Convenient if your single minded purpose is to erect a straw man to take apart or use the occasion as an opportunity for snark..
Really? Here I thought that was what I was specifically addressing in my post.
Rman Virgil wrote:BTW - RPS, adapted from board games to comp games, is a technique originally invoked to deal with the limits of processing power to
sim real world experience. Supreme Commander is a good example of a game starting to implement that insight and moving away from
RPS in RTS being central to balance. If you wanna argue that point take it up with the Lead Designer of SC, Chris Taylor... O_O
Actually, Supreme Commander still has lots of RPS balancing. Gunships beat tanks, tanks beat AA, AA beat gunships. What it specifically doesn't have, I think, is damage-type balancing, but that's only one of many RPS balancing present in a typical RTS.

Not to mention Sirlin's staple RTS balance: Rusher beats turtle, turtle beats hybrid, hybrid beats rusher.

Anyway. The point is, I was bringing up the point that any balance in RTS games will be RPS-style balancing. I do want to discuss this further, so if you're up to it...
