Warzone gripes

Post by gulik »

Hi all.

The game is great! I've wasted so much time on it. Lately I tried out the 2.2 RC1, which still has rough edges but works well.

Here are some "imperfections" I find about the game:

* Sometimes tanks and cyborgs get stuck on the corner of a hill and go back and forth. Repair cyborgs don't seem to be able to repair tanks - they just get "stuck". Tanks don't seem to be able to pick things up; you have to tell the tank to drive to a point just past a barrel or artifact to actually retrieve it.

* Double-clicking a truck doesn't select other trucks on screen.

* I can't see what units are! Sure, I could zoom in and look at their turrents, but perhaps we could have a key (SHIFT?) which overlays big "type" icons over each one so I can tell my repairs from my sensors from my machine guns at a glance.

* How do you make a sensor automatically choose targets when idle?

* If you send repair tanks to repair some other tanks, they all do this retarded dance. The repair tanks seem to want to first repair the most difficult tank to get to, which involves bumping into a dozen tanks, spreading them all over a huge area in a complete disarray and taking a long time. If a repair tank can repair things without moving, why don't they do that first!? And why can't tanks line themselves up nicely in formation to avoid the retarded shuffle dance? Perhaps this could become a behaviour of the commander: vehicles with the most HP in the front line, repair vehicles, sensor and commander in the back line.

* The tech tree - aaaargh! It's soooo complex! Okay, for the campaign it's okay because you research stuff slowly, but in a skirmish it becomes unweildy. I know I want VTOLS, lancers and bunker busters, but how on Earth am I meant to work out the dependencies? Save the game, research on the Internet and rejoin the game? Either simplify the tech tree so that mortals can navigate it, or provide some more advanced in-game help ("Auto-research: search for and select a technology and the research centers will automatically research all dependencies for you").

* Controls - are sometimes difficult. I'd like to have the W-A-S-D keys assigned to moving around the map, so I can keep the mouse in action in the middle of the screen. I'd also like to be able zoom out more.

* Micro-control - I'd like to be able to select a tank, press space, and then drive it with W-A-S-D and aim and fire it's weapon with the mouse. How cool would that be!? We could have tank races. Or VTOL dog fights :-).

My Warzone 2100 Gripes: by Revelo

- The NEXUS character still scares the sh*t out of me ten years on :( Mods: Please make him a clown so I can sleep soundly at night.

The End.

Auto Research: Then you run out of powers mysteriously as they eat them all up researching for you, boom goes the dynamite ;). Most of them are inter-connected anyway and you may want to get a powerful weapon quickly, but it may take longer to reload for example since you skipped ahead.
