Trunk crash

Post by Luke »

I'm back. Hello to everyone. Been a while.

I am impressed with the work you all have done so far, and am very intrigued by the new renderer in trunk as well as some of the other things I read about. However I can't get trunk to run on my computer.

Well, it runs, but when I go to start a game (any game - campaign, skirmish, fastplay, etc) it will render exactly one frame (so I can just catch a glimpse of the terrain, starting units, and structures), then immediately CTD with no error message or anything.

Below is the dump file including several attempts to run, all identically CTD. The paths referenced in the "rebuildsearchpath" sections of the error log look a bit weird to me.

I am running on Windows vista ultimate 32 bit, Intel core2 duo T7500, with gfx card a NVidia Quadro FX 570M. Yes this is a laptop computer but it handles games very well... for example I routinely run TF2 with the graphics pumped up, at nice high framerates.

This only happens with trunk. 2.1.3 and 2.2 RC1 run beautifully well in all modes. I have trunk installed in a separate folder from my 2.2 RC1 install. Do I need to uninstall 2.2RC1 before installing trunk, perhaps? I wouldn't think there should be a conflict.

That's the same exact problem I've been having. All the other versions work great on my PC, but in the trunk, right when I start a game, it just automatically closes, with no error messages. Phew, I thought this was just a problem on my computer. I tried what you said about uninstalling the RC1 version, but it didn't work. I'm not sure about the dump file though since I haven't looked at mine (couldn't find it). But the problem you're having and the problem I'm having is the same.

Hey, Luke, aka RJ here...

Another OGL .dll Trunk finds objectionable. The one I had probs with was iglicd32.dll.... what was particularly
mystifying for me was that it would sometime behave exactly like your guys experience and other times it would run
for a couple hours instead of a couple seconds. Therein, that last, I believe, is something to be gleaned for a master
coder, which I am not. What I ended-up doing is trying different versions of the driver package for my GFX HW. Oddly,
the most recent version of that .dll did not even allow the .exe to launch !!! Apparently these OGL.dlls are also modified
to be manufacturer HW specific. UGGG... :(

Regards, whipper

Your graphics driver crashed. As whippersnapper points out, this is a system problem on your end specific to your hardware/opengl driver/operating system combination.

Usual fixes are:
- upgrade/rollback graphics driver
- turn off compositing window managers like Aero or compiz
- sometimes turning down hardware acceleration helps
