Game saves broken?
Okay, so I started playing with 2.1.3 on Ubuntu Jaunty, which is what was in the default repository. After having the infamous choppy sound issue, I discovered the whole OpenAL fiasco and began to work it out. I used the instructions here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=725727 to install the newest OpenAL, which fixed it. On a side note it seems the reason Ubuntu and Debian are using such an outdated OpenAL is due to the developers wild shenanigans regarding OpenAL Soft as a 'hack' and refusing to use what actually works well. During the process of all that I found this site and thought perhaps using the newest version would be nice, so I uninstalled the old one (backing up my game saves in my home folder), used the instructions here http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/LinuxCompileGuide to install it, downloaded the sequences.wz and placed it in the new .warzone folder in my home directory, and pushed my game saves back into their proper place. I started it, everything looked all shiny and sounded good, the videos worked now, everything was gold. Until I attempted to load my old game saves, which prompted a crash and left my resolution at a beautiful 640x480. None of them work. Starting a new campaign works just fine, so I'm assuming my game saves are pointing to places that no longer exist? Here's the crash file.

There is a slight issue if you are playing 2.2 from svn and previous savegames. We are talking about that issue now on the ML.
If you are using 2.2rc1, then you should be able to load past savegames from 2.1.x.
and it ends here.

Ya I'm pretty sure it is. I just did this today so it's whatever is current. When I load the game it says r7567 on the right.

Yeah, so you need to revert r7448, and you can load those savegames again.blix wrote:Ya I'm pretty sure it is. I just did this today so it's whatever is current. When I load the game it says r7567 on the right.

Re: Game saves broken?
He mentions that he's using campaign savegames. The 2.2 RC2 issue should only affect skirmish savegames.

Re: Game saves broken?
Well guys it looks like my problems are worse than the game saves. I stared a new campaign today and played for probably 5 minutes before it crashed. So maybe its something else. I'm going to revert back to 2.2rc1 and see how things go.

Debian uses OpenAL Soft.blix wrote:On a side note it seems the reason Ubuntu and Debian are using such an outdated OpenAL is due to the developers wild shenanigans regarding OpenAL Soft as a 'hack' and refusing to use what actually works well.
Give us crashdumps. Especially if things broke since 2.2rc1.blix wrote:Well guys it looks like my problems are worse than the game saves. Re: Game saves broken?
Savegames should be working again now in the 2.2 branch.
As for OpenAL, I have had better luck running the older OpenAL-soft 1.5 rather than the current 1.7 version (openSUSE 11.2)

Re: Game saves broken?
More OpenAL: just for fun, I uninstalled OpenAL-soft and installed the older OpenAL package. It *seems* to use a little less cpu and have less crackle & breakup.
As a bonus, it works with JACK (via jacklaunch warzone2100) for those of you that like that sort of thing.

Reverted back to 2.2rc1, problem still exists. Also something else odd, I can play campaigns now without it crashing, however sometimes it ..."lags". Not always, and there doesn't seem to be any common theme whenever it does. I'm not running anything resource intensive in the background, so I'm not sure as to why. It didn't do this on 2.1.3.
I was basing that off a dated forum posting from last year. I wonder why Ubuntu isn't using it yet. Here is the crashdump.Debian uses OpenAL Soft.

Code: Select all
Log message: error |11:21:39: [eventLoadContext] Context 5 of 6: Number of context variables (967) does not match the script code (969)With 2.2 branch, you start a new game, and then play for a bit, and then save, then load ?
Or is this a savegame from a previous version (which?), and trying to load that? If so, attach the savegame.
Campaign games shouldn't have been touched at all by the issue I am thinking about.

Re: Game saves broken?
If I start a brand new campaign, everything works fine, except the infrequent "lag" issue. Sometimes the game just slows down a bit and things get "jerky". I can save this new campaign, and reload the save just fine. The problem is that my old game saves, from 2.1.3, crash the game whenever I attempt to load them. Here's one of them. Looks like you guys did away with the .es files for 2.2.

No, the .es file is still saved--when needed.blix wrote:If I start a brand new campaign, everything works fine, except the infrequent "lag" issue. I don't have 2.1.x on my system anymore, so I can't check other save games.

I've reverted back to 2.1.3. My saves work, my sound is working just fine now, and the sequences work as well. Nothing to complain about.

The sequences can't work on 2.1.x.
Those only work for 2.2+
and it ends here.
