"Out of range" message

Post by demag »

Hello,

Be patient with me  I have just escaped the clutches of Mr Gates' empire and am now running PCLinuxOS 2009.1 which I like very much, although I am still trying to find my way around it.

I found Warzone in Synaptic and installed it. When I click on the desktop icon to launch it I immediately get a blank screen and the out of range message. All I can then do is hit Ctrl Alt Backspace which takes me back to the splash screen to log back in to PCLOS again. Otherwise my system runs fine with good graphics.

I'm fairly confident this is just a resolution thing, but I'm not quite sure how to overcome it.

Graphics card is ATI X1650. MB Asus A8v deluxe. San Diego 3700 AMD cpu.

Thanks,

Dave.

What's your monitor, and what resolution do you run it at (usually threre's an info button on the monitor that can show the current resolution)? Every reasonably new monitor (~10 years) should report its supported resolutions, and then the driver should only use those resolutions. So if your monitor supports that, and the driver still uses an invalid resolution, you should report it as a bug to PCLinuxOS.

Now as a workaround, start Warzone, and then press alt+enter. This should switch to windowed mode, where you can change the resolution it uses in the video options. Change the resolution there, and restart Warzone. You can also switch to windowed mode there, if you cannot find a good resolution, then you probably want to enable "trap cursor" in the mouse options.

what version of the game did you get from synaptic?

warzone2100 --window --resolution 800x600 is a pretty safe bet.
and it ends here.

Thanks for the help,

I made adjustments as suggested and everything is working fine now.
Just played my first two missions.
