Bases and Advanced Bases in custom maps

Post by Zarel »

Hey, mappers!

I've noticed one dramatic difference between Pumpkin maps and new maps: The new maps have no Bases or Advanced Bases. At most, they have an HQ in addition to the two trucks.

Now, from what I remember from EditWorld, bases weren't that hard to make. So could you guys add two research facilities, two factories, a cyborg factory, a generator, and maybe a command relay post. And a few LC hardpoints. That'd be nice.

oh sure!! :stressed: now you complain there is no bases!!!! :stare: ROTFLMAO xD lololololol.... xD not YOU in particular but just from over the past few years i did have some nice bases built ( which took anywhere from a couple days to over 2 months)... and had complaints. so now there is just the bare minimum of what is required to play the game which is at least 1 truck per player, 1 command center per player, and oil wells ( keep this number down to 20 or less per player). xD

i am not bitching/complaining - i just find your comment extremely funny after all this time ... thanks - you brightened up my day. xD

Takes that long? I mean, building a base in-game takes a lot shorter than that... :P

Out of curiousity, who do people complain?

so bases are balanced, yes , it does sometimes take that long... i had one map - all bases were balanced and the ai's were attacking anywhere from 3 mins to 8 mins from start of game. thats on a t1 bases with 5 trucks 1 factory one cyborg factory per player.

thing is yes i could belt out maps left , right , and center... but those would be flat and boring. ie: all the team wars maps. none of which have any significant terrain.

i learned from some of the best map makers going - RBL-4rnik8r - rman - troman - laws215 - maynard and others whose names escape me at the moment... its not just putting down walls and defenses etc... it is also how you envisage the overall gameplay. do you go for quick 10 minute games or my favourite, 4 plus hours or better... :D

the people that complained ( requested??) it - i cant remember their reasons... perhaps they were not overly stratacticly endowed.... ( strategy / tactics ) ie: new to the game or they didnt like the massive changes in terrain on my maps... they were so used to playing (team war flat maps)... the only way to find out is to play the maps - see if you want to have bases ( i can do that if you want - just let me know exactly what it is your after.) ok? xD

and just to let you know - the maps i will be uploading as well as the ones i have already uploaded - were started 5 to 6 years ago... i release - get feedback - change - etc... its pretty much an ongoing process.... if you dont believe me - ask others about how long it takes them. :3

Erm..all my maps do have bases. If people do complain about them then they can just play no bases. I find that in most multiplayer games I've played it's been a no bases start. It seems that people prefer to build what they want, not what they are given.

the problem with any preset base is it may well be linked to one persons preference for base design.
somone else may find this annoying, especially if space is a premium.

redesigning beta base to my preference in campaign mode is something of a task.

I dont really think that most people would want to have to start with a pre-built base only to demolish it and build over it all again so that they could have their own design. (mabye some of the newer players would like it!) but i think the maps would be fine without bases. :P
but mostly i think it is up to the creators of the map to decide that :)

You can just mirror the bases... Shouldn't be too hard to do that...

Well, if they weren't very good at the game... perhaps their advice isn't worth listening to?

See, people who don't want to start with a pre-built base can play No Bases. If I select Advanced Bases, I want Advanced Bases. :[

the problem with that is you may not like the advanced base that someone has made and then you would complain again that the base's are like, too advanced xD ,or do you just not care really much about the base's and more about getting into the fighting and destroying someones masterpeice base, watching it turn to rubble as they break down ater taking over an hour to make it xD.

p.s

would it be cool is you had a choice between lots'o units and a really good base indepently for each player. :)

as i have stated - you want somethiing special - let me know - will build to suit - keep in mind i will not build FLAT TEAM WAR MAPS. they are so boring and predictable. you want a certain area on earth or another planet - ask. will get height map from my source. :3 xD . no charge for the service - you get all the goodies - LND / height map / and compiled. if your in a hurry - you can do all the grunt work. :3 xD

If that were true, I'd pick "No Bases". If I picked "Advanced Bases" instead, then give me Advanced Bases instead! Rrrgh.
