Air-to-air combat is not well-integrated in Warzone, since VTOLs are actually just ground-attack helicopters going by a different name. You can still get planes to maybe fight each other using VTOL Radar Towers or telling them to patrol the enemy flight path in a region free of enemy ground units. Or if you're really good at micromanagement, resort to manual targeting.

Of course, it's not too hard to mod an AAM into the game. I thought of doing it but was too lazy to get started about it. :stare:

I know about the Strike Tower, but there is no missile that a VTOL can use to destroy another VTOL like the SAM present in the game.
Skrim got my point, but even helis can carry AA missles...hoping to see an AA missles in the game <.<

Both of which are highly effective -- if they can hit. I think HVCs would be more effective... I guess it wouldn't be too hard to mod in an AA missile turret though, would it?

I made a little mod for the "Stinger AAM", an air-to-air missile launcher carrying 6 400-damage(without upgrades) Anti-Air Missile weapons with enough delay between shots to prevent overkill and allow for one fighter to engage up to 6 targets one-after-another before having to rearm, though it cannot attack ground targets. The missile speed will be raised to 1200 later, once I can get this basic version to work. Right now, the stderr says "error: Cannot find component Missile-LtAAM" when the Stinger(Missile-LtAAM) is clearly in the weapons.txt file and uses the exact same set of graphics as the Avenger SAM. The weapon is supposed to be unlocked once you research the Avenger SAM.

Edit: It's a 2.0.10 mod made with 2.0.10 stats, FYI.

As for existing weapons, the VTOL-fitted Minipod, Lancer, Tank Killer and Scourge Missile can all target aircraft, but are not optimized to do it. They are mainly anti-tank weapons and will attack ground targets unless they're held back and manually babysitted. I don't think the VTOL-mounted versions of the HPV Cannon and Pulse Laser can attack other aircraft, only ground targets.

Welp...the tech tree would require an improved AA missile with more range and firepower
Like AIM-120 AMRAAM
Image
So the tech tree would be like

...
-Scourge
-Avenger
-AIM-9 Sidewinder
-...
-Vindicator
-AIM-120 AMRAAM

No. This game can't have AMRAAMs.

AMRAAMs are long-ranged BVR weapons mounted on actual fighter aircraft. Actual fighter aircraft do not exist in Warzone, and maps are not large enough to create a need for units that fast, that high-flying, and that heavily-armed. If maps were that big, tanks would take unacceptably long amounts of time to get anywhere and people would be focusing on aircraft only.

Hence, VTOLs are attack helicopters under a futuristic name. Attack helicopters carry short-ranged air-to-air weapons like the AIM-92 Stinger, or at best the AIM-9 Sidewinder, for WVR duels against other attack helicopters. The AIM-120C AMRAAM has a (much)longer range than the M270 MLRS - which means implementing it in Warzone will result in an air-to-air missile with longer range than the Archangel - which is, quite simply, ridiculous.

Even the Avenger and Vindicator are short-ranged weapons more akin to the German Wiesel 2 Ozelot, the American Stinger-armed M1097 Avenger, the French Crotale or the British Rapier.
