Multiplayer Problems

Post by tm007 »

I enjoy playing Warzone's champaign mode, but I wanted to try Warzone's online multi player capabilities. Any time I go to the lobby in multi player game mode the lobby list is blank. I've read some posts saying you need to allow the 9999 TCP port using your firewall. I thought this was interesting since my OS is Ubuntu release 8.10 kernel linux 2.6.27-9 generic. So I downloaded and installed GUFW, which is just a graphic user interface for Ubuntu's firewall. Using GUFW I've allowed TCP port 9999 from anywhere, yet when I go into Warzone's lobby the list is still empty.
Are there any Ubuntu users that have solved this problem?

BTW; I using highspeed DSL via wireless connection to the modem. Can anyone Ubuntu users help please!

by default, i'm pretty sure ubuntu has nothing setup be default as a fw, so you should have been fine there. afaik, you only need to forward anything if you want to host a game, otherwise you should be fine to browse the list. There are very very few games right now, so it's possible that their just weren't any games. if you can or know how, hang out in #warzone2100 on freenode, games come up periodically.

btw, you will need to foward 9997-9999 from your wireless router to your desktop if you are wanting to host a game.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the firewall program i got was useless. Now I have two questions what's freenode? And to forward 9997-9999 from my wireless router would I have to contact my internet service provider?

no isp's do not control YOUR router.

not sure which program (built in or 3rd party) you would use , windows just automatically uses the browser when you plug in the address of the router in the address bar - then enter the user name (admin??) and password?? if you have set it up. if not admin and a return at the password prompt should suffice...if not look it up in your routers manual - can be read online at the manufacturers site - unless said manufacturer has gone to file 13. :D

once inside the routers internals - read the manual. is your best and safest route.

Yes I remember now. Type my IP: address in to the address bar and play with the settings there. Thats how I started my wireless network in the first place.
I'm still curious as to what freenode is though.
Thanks for the reply.
