Re: Planes...
VTOLs are completely different from planes; VTOLs are more of helicopters. Planes would have a much higher speed and would not be able to stop moving and would need a land strip etc, whereas VTOLs can stop on the fly (lol pun) and land vertically. I don't really see the point in these though...maps aren't big enough for extremely fast moving targets to matter that much and VTOLs do a fine job of bombing runs.

VTOLs are planes of future!
now there are some models of plane with vertical landing and can stay on one place...(but limited time, pilot need to be an ace)

Re: Planes...
You need Fuel Injection Engine Mk3, Hover propulsion and Automated Factory production technologies to have VTOL propulsion.FireEye wrote:Ok i got it but when can i build the VTOL in the skirmish battle?
On other VTOL related technologies (weapons etc.) check Zarel's guide.

Re: Planes...
VTOLs in Warzone 2100 are for all purposes attack helicopters. The VTOL moniker is just a label to sound futuristic and avoid the trouble of animating rotary-winged air units. VTOLs in Warzone are something like this:Phoenix666 wrote:VTOLs are planes of future!

1. Take a Moller M400 Skycar and an MQ-9 Reaper and create a design half-way between the two. It should have Skycar-like VTOL ability, carry the weaponry load of the Reaper, and be unmanned like the Reaper.
2. Give it a powerful jet engine, say, like the F-35's 40000lb thrust rated engine. Make accommodations for the fuel somehow.
3. Give it as much armor as an AH-64 Apache. Maybe a bit more, actually.
4. Now, arm it with only 1 kind of weapon. Make sure it can't carry any other kind of weapon except that.
Voila. You have a WZ VTOL. Useless in the real world, perfect in the game. Now have fun, and watch out for those pesky SAMs.
Real life VTOL fighters like the Harrier and the stealthy new F-35 Lightning do exist, but their capabilities are well beyond what the Warzone VTOLs can manage, so they can't be compared.

WZ world is not real
i thibk VTOLs are slowy(then needed) because bodyes sre rather heavy

Re: Planes...
light body - high speed
heavy body - small speed (but tough
)
and i would say, that a vtol is more a plane than a helicopter.
it has a jet-propulsion in the rear, not typically helicopter-like eh ?
(PS: we are also having VTOLs in RL)

I don't know skirm. You say those would be useless in real life, but I imagine an aircraft rated with as much survivability as an M1A1 and all the speed of an F35 would have at least some use, even if it's loadout was single-minded

Re: Planes...
Survivability of an M1A1? Since when have VTOLs been so tough? They're tougher than the AH-64, but they're in no way as tough as the A-10(which can lose it's landing gear, a wing, an engine, and a tail, and still get home fine) or any tank(barring top-attacks and rear attacks that make tanks a lot more vulnerable). Even in 2.1, their survivability comes from evasion instead of taking hits, and more importantly, as a result of ass-hat AA gunners firing faulty shells. And in case you mention SAMs, the SAMs in WZ have rather small warheads and low range - like Stingers or Ozelots.themousemaster wrote:I don't know skirm. And they're not as fast as the F-35, no way. I mentioned that they'd need an F-35 grade engine, but that's in order to pull off the aerial stunts they regularly employ, which include accelerating quite fast, stopping rather quickly, and VIFFing(Vectoring in Forward Flight, a tactic used by real-world VTOL -i.e, Harrier Jump Jet- pilots) all while carrying more armor than an AH-64, an MQ-9's worth of weaponry, heavy VTOL equipment, and stubby little F-104 sized wings which I doubt would be very helpful in lifting all that stuff.
As for the tanks in Warzone, they're are as tough as they are because:
-1. They're unmanned. Removes a lot of trouble and frees up space and weight for more armor to be put in.
-2. Arbitrary "armor upgrades" giving whopping 30% increases to toughness. I play Skirmish mode with a self-made mod that disables all upgrade techs, and tanks are not so tough vs. weapons now, but still as tough as they should be.

Re: Planes...
I was just referencing the VTOLs being as survivable as an M1A1 since you can use the exact same bodies on a VTOL as you can on a tank. Yes, I realize the M1A1 isn't actually in the game, it just sounded effective.
Also, since when are the tanks unmanned? I figured the whole reason units got "experience" in warzone is because the human pilots (or cyborgs) learned from their battles.
