Sensors. What the heck?

Post by Rider »

So I've been playing this game for about 5 years and there's something I still don't get about it. Sensors. What is each towers exact purpose? I know placing a sensor tower near your turrets has a beneficial effect on their range, but beyond that it's just speculation. I've tried to figure out, by experimentation, what each sensor type does but I'm not getting it.

I haven't found any documentation on the different sensor types so I ask you, the developers and community, what do each of the sensor types do??

http://docs.wz2100.net/documents%20proj ... edefe.html - shows sensor range etc.... as well as the research to get that tower.

http://docs.wz2100.net/manual/page24.html read from "Indirect Fire Weapons" and all of page 25.

http://docs.wz2100.net/index.html - all of the OLD original game documentation. for the new docs look at the top of this site and you will see manual. it isnt finished but should provide you some interesting reading.

and welcome. xD

To supplement Lav's good suggestions - if you want more to read:

Zarel's excellent "WZ Guide": http://wzguide.co.cc/w/

And 2 recent threads that get into Sensors and possible improvements:

Somebody asked a question just like this here.

Zarel's Guide, mentioned above, can be substituted in place of Coyote's first link - the old docs project link shows obsolete ranges, while Zarel's Guide shows the ranges as of the latest release.

Sometimes I have trouble targetting things on higher or lower terrain. I have to do the "sensor jig" just right so it will target. Otherwise, the sensor truck seems to run right up to the contour line and gets itself demolished.

You could try moving the sensor unit farther away from the cliff/hill/terrain and then targeting. The sensor turret can't manage very steep angles.

The first grey Sensor Tower offers a Range of 1024. Almost all the others after this Sensor (CB, VTOL and CB/VTOL) too.
And then the green Multifunctional-Sensor offers a Range of 2048. It is the best, as it combines all CB- and VTOL-Sensors.
Hmm, so that was a recent change? I thought it had always been:

Sensor Tower: 1536
CB, VTOL Strike, VTOL CB: 2048
Wide Spectrum: 2260

Anyway, my Guide is also better because it gives ranges in terms of tiles instead of 1/128 of tiles. It's easier to estimate that than to figure out just how long "1536" is.
