Hello again!

Post by Goth Zagog-Thou »

Great job on the game so far guys. I'm SO glad it didn't die off.

I've been playing the latest build for the past few hours, and I'm impressed with how great it runs. All the little upgrades have definetely made a difference.

And would you believe that I *still* have all my maps and mods that I made? Including my custom tileset? Imagine that... :D

And the new music is great as well.

Bearing that in mind, I have some new music to contribute to the game. I've taken the liberty of converting to the (standard) .ogg format, modding my playlist and testing it in-game, and it does fine. If there's any interest I'll make more. Little problem: I can't attach it because it's 2,092 KB in size. Zipping really dosen't help (maybe reduces it by 10kb). Anyone willing to point me in a direction so that I may share it? :D

And yes -- I'm back for good this time. Really. :P

Welcome back, Zagog.

Maybe you'll remember a little Tyranid that ran around the NEWST/Pumpkin-2/RTS.net forums? =p

Any idea if you can get that stuff converted to the new file formats? Would be cool.

PS: Do you do any modeling? Perhaps you can help Rush and myself out, we're kind-of on a busy schedule, it's not exactly easy. If not, whatever, we'll manage. =p

Enjoy your stay.

I'm not sure. Is it still using the old .wdg format?

I really should try to load up my mods & maps and see if they still work...

I'll be back in a few.

As for modeling, I was never any good at it. I *do* have time to learn tho. :P

[EDIT] Everything works. Editworld hosed my install, but once I took care of that everything was fine. My maps were fairly basic, my tilesets were good, and my mod...well, it's every bit overkill that it used to be. :D

It has the following custom weapons:

- Twin Assault Laser
- Ion Cannon
- Tesla Coil Fortress
- Wyvern-II body
- MagLev Propulsion
- could build Scavenger Factories and Scav Power Generators
- Devestator Laser (very overkill)
- Wide-Spectrum Sensor Hardpoints
- Bunch of other additions that I don't remember offhand....

Oh, and the AI will use this stuff against you -- and it won't be pretty. The AI that came with it is my own homebrew called Frankenstein AI -- and it's hardcore.

I'll be happy to make it all available immediately.

Bummer. The newest WZ Starter can't build Frankenstein from the separate vlo and slo files. :(

Anyone mind giving me a hand with that? It used to work with the old versions of WZ Starter...

Really? I'm using WZStarter 2.0-something (the main download then the update). My maps and mod all work, the only thing that hasn't so far is Frankenstein. I've been using it with version .02 of the game (the .05 gives me runtime errors...so thats probably what you mean by things not working...)

EditWorld got an update? *GASP!* 32-bit?? Say it aint so !

And it's good to see you too old buddy. We need to get a game going... :D Is Strata still working on WZCK? (his page is down).

I've got it, set my directories according to the readme, followed the instructions for the manual 128 setting thing, and it won't load the data sets when the program instructs me to load one up (and then crashes). :( Bummer. I really wanted to see the improvements.

Anything I'm doing wrong?

Most of the WZ Starter features will not work with WRP version of WZ. Especially it won't work on any other platform but windows, thus I stopped its development. However I think it should still be possible to use it on windows for AI selection. You have to unzip the content of the warzone.wz file and start wz with additional command line parameter:

Code: Select all

--datadir warzone
This will make wz look for data in 'warzone' directory instead of warzone.wz file.

The way WZS works you will probably have to put a dummy warzone.exe into this "warzone" directory otherwise WZS will keep complaining, you won't be able to start WZ with WZS though, only switch AIs using the "AI" tab and "Apply" button.

There's another file called mp.wz which contains data from the updates. You might want to merge contents of both files (files from mp.wz should overwrite files from warzone.wz).

I haven't tested this, but I think it should work.

It should. You have to make sure your vlo file has following lines:
script "playerX.slo"
run
{
player INT X
Where X is one of the following: 0-7.

If it works for original playerX.slo/vlo files, then it should work for custom ones as well.

If you still have problems let me take a look at slo and vlo files and I might figure out what's wrong with it.
