Hi,
I just started playing this game yesterday. It got me very interested in the start. But later I got pretty frustrated, because I just did not know initially how things work. I just rushed through the mission too much, loosing valueable energy and units, not building defences, etc.
So not that I know I few things I just created a wiki page to help noobs like me:

Please add any other wisdom you have to help me and others.
Some tips for the start

Re: Some tips for the start
Well, you could start off single player by placing machine gun bunkers around the outskirts of your base. They are a cheap, but hard defense to crack. That is, once you get them. Remember, defenses are your friends.
don’t be afraid to build more than one factory. In fact, you can use some of the first stage scavenger areas as bases, to place your factories.
Try to postpone the levels as long as you are able, so you can get all the research done for the next level, and more power.
One final note: make sure your tanks are nice and dirty with lots of grit. I think washing your units and making them clean would make them feel quite demeaning
