Bored ?

Post by Rman Virgil »

------>

* Such a facinating topic.

* Used as a put-down but really reflects more of the perciever's lack of intellectual prowess than anything about the object of perception itself.

* You could create a hefty tome just on the comments of the most accomplished minds across time and nations on the subject of boredom.

* Here are a few:

- “You'll find boredom where there is the absence of a good idea”

- “There's no excuse to be bored. Sad, yes. Angry, yes. Depressed, yes. Crazy, yes. But there's no excuse for boredom, ever.”

- “The life of the creative man is lead, directed and controlled by boredom. Avoiding boredom is one of our most important purposes.”

- "Boredom is rage spread thin."

* I'll add more, and delicious they will be.

Nice quotes, but the first one seems a bit obvious to me...

I especially like these quotes, some which I found right now and some which I already heard:

"The cure for boredom is curiosity; while there is no cure for curiosity."

"If monkeys could feel boredom, they could become men" Johann Wolfgang Goethe

"Boredom sets into the boring mind" - Metallica/The Struggle Within

"The only horrible thing in the world is ennui, Dorian. That is the one sin for which there is no forgiveness". - Oscar Wilde/The Picture of Dorian Gray

"Boredom: the desire for desires." - Leo Tolstoy/Anna Karenina

[some of the quotes have been translated by me from italian to english, I hope all the translation are correct!]
"I think of it [boredom] as an index of superior intelligence, and I think its importance is really great." Bertrand Russel/Bertrand Russell Speaks His Mind
