Was/is a good game. I only wished the source code was made available.

Maybe linux/mac guys can use wine to play it?

There was still some effort done: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freecnc (for C&C 1 and red alert)
But fall completely asleep around an year ago, mostly due the fear of a Cease & Desist letter, if i remember right.

Ironically some months later, EA made C&C1 freely available.
We all have the same heaven, but not the same horizon.

I like Red Alert, though I prefer the original C&C. And then, I already own several legal copies of both games.
But it's nice to see them being released for free, and I guessed they would release Red Alert today when I noticed the date.
Yeah, I also think they should release the source code, so they (especially the original C&C) can be expanded upon. There were a lot of units seen in the FMV's which weren't available in-game, it would be great if they could be added ... and the original C&C lacked a skirmish mode. I'd also love to see both games updated with an simple 3D engine, like they did with the Nintendo 64 version of Command & Conquer 1. Oh, and think of the possibilities of releasing the source code for Tiberian Sun. I'd say it had a pretty good engine which could be used for other projects, and it would be wonderful to play in a *nix system.
There's a lot of games I'd love to see open sourced.

It's funny that winehq was down when this was released. :D Probably just a coincidence.
Looks like it has a good rating with wine.

Is it just me or is the target audience for RA3 the typical 18-25 yr-old sexually deprived american male whose brains are wedged in their nether reigons? O_o (To their credit, the cast is fairly impressive).

I predict another failure of innovation in the making. :stare: :...:

The new Tanya would imply that. Though she was something like that in the earlier games as well ...
I did like the plot overview I read, but in the end it is the gameplay that will decide if it's a good game or not.
I only hope they will make a game based on the soviet outcome of the games some time, it's annoying that they always base the C&C sequels on the 'good' ending.

I make my judgements based on the box art, and the teaser/trailer that I saw. You just can't take any woman seriously when her latex uniform is only zipped halfway up (since when did military uniforms consist of latex..?). Although, I must admit some people wouldn't complain about that. :D

I just see way beyond the marketing ploys. Their target audience is clear, and I don't buy into it. To me, it's just an effort at covering up a possibly bad story/gameplay.

sure, it's not the first time in the history of gaming they make a game that becomes an incredible success because of the developers sexed it up rather than produced a good game.
Though you can argue that strangely clothed women have appeared in just about all the C&C games - remember the "News channel" segments from the first C&C? The female host had a shirt which didn't seem to have a single button fastened, which looked pretty ridiculous. I think there were several similar segments in Red Alert but I can't exactly remember when, I think there were some russian female soldiers which didn't seem to quite follow the regulations on how to carry their uniforms.
But of course, none of them have ever made it to the front cover of the game box before, they were rather made as "rewards" for the gamer who completed the game or had made significant progress in the campaign.

Hehe it's funny you should mention the female newscaster in C&C. That was on the NOD ending, right? That was the first time where I pulled a O_o. It spiralled from there :P

At any rate, it's good news that the games are now freely downloadable. Those were fun games. Well, RA1 was, anyway.

Isn't that what all companies now target to? They *think* that they have the most disposable income to waste...

I am unsure about the game, will have to wait for a demo.

I still like Kelly Hu though. :D
