Some years ago I was bored in class and began writing up a concept document for a real-time version of Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri, or rather, a "successor" to it. I was unaware Warzone existed then, and was vaguely aware of the Earth series (didn't care much for them). I am supprised to find a few similarities between the one I came up with and Warzone, though what differentiates the two is pretty large in itself, as my concept went beyond the individual games and was more about sculpting your faction for the long run.
I just recently tried your Resurrection of Warzone 2100, and I think it's interesting so far, though in need of a few bits of polish (sounds, for instance, are a tad rough). Got a few questions I thought I'd ask, however.
1) Does the development team have any plans to redo the graphics at any point? I noticed a few improvements over the original Warzone 2100 for the environment (my copy of WZ2100 barely worked, and as far as I saw the grounds where really "splotchy" on the original). It's kind of hard to see your units against the background (or at least in that skirmish it was, as I was green), and most of the units look like a blob because of it.
2) What sort of aircraft exist in game? I noticed AA weapons, but as far as I got into the skirmish (which I stopped after my entire vehicle army was stopped by two MG bunkers), I didn't see a building for them.
3) Do the developers of this Resurrection project intend to make any major changes (or have you already) to the game, or is it an upgraded port?
I'd really love to see this project get popular -- unit customization (and from what I came up with above, faction customization) *should* have become a standard in the RTS genre a decade ago, but it just never caught on sadly.

There have been *lots* of changes, mostly internal though. More changes are going to happen, but with the very limited man power, limited dev time, and all that, everything isn't as fast as one would want. If you know how to code, or know of any other coders that can help, we are always looking for more people to join.Cheomesh wrote: Got a few questions I thought I'd ask, however.

Artists redo the gfx, and while we have a couple, I don't think anyone but one is currently doing anything on that front. Or in other words, if your a good artist, then get together with the artists we have, and redo the gfx.

My original major was CS, changed to comp. prog (and considering changing it again to something else), so I might be able to help as I've some C++ experience (and with OOP in general)...what's your coder status right now?

We are in need of more codersCheomesh wrote:My original major was CS, changed to comp. prog (and considering changing it again to something else), so I might be able to help as I've some C++ experience (and with OOP in general)...what's your coder status right now?
So far as major changes go I believe the consensus is that we are willing to make them — a recent example being the addition of support for naval units — with the decision being that the game should ship with support for them — as opposed to letting modders take advantage of them.
As Buggy said, thought, nearly all of the changes have been under-the-hood so to speak.
If you're interested in helping out I would recommend subscribing to the mailing list (Warzone-dev) and possibly even checking out IRC.
