config file.

Post by themousemaster »

I just changed from 2.0.10 to 2.1.beta4.

I was getting some graphic slowdown, and just changing the video options in-game wasn't much help (oddly enough, game runs perfectly smooth with just about anything on screen... bu the instant I select even 1 unit, the FPS chugging begins)

I've read a few of the "helps" on this forum, and it seems the config file located in my ~/My Documents/warzone2100 directory is in a different format (specifically, mention keeps being made of the "texturesize" option in the file, whereas mine has no such line).

That's not what I'm worried about though (I just deleted it, I hear it will re-create itself next time I start the game).

Ok, long-winded introduction over.

My question is, is there someplace where I can go that will tell me what all the items in the config file refer to? There are some things I want to try, but I would like to know each variable's reference before I try them.

If the file isn't there, it will recreate it.

As for what all the options are, I don't think all those are written down anyplace, except in the source code of course.

What kind of hardware you got?
Which OS?

That's largely the problem. This is on a computer with Integrated Video, so I had a feeling that, even though the old 1.XX wz ran fine with just that, the 2.X series would chug.

Everything else is fine. AMD 3GHZ, 1.5G ram, Windows XP.

I turned off shadows, set it to 1024X768, and...

Well, I just find it odd that I can have 40 tanks on screen all firing at once, with no problems, but the instant I select a single tank...

Selecting 1 unit just draws the selection box around the unit, and I don't think anything else. Dunno what it could be, that is *very* weird.

Which integrated chipset is this? Nvidia, or ATI/AMD?

You may be able to get new video drivers, and it should work ok, I don't think they would skimp that much on the chipset if it uses a decent CPU in it.

I'll... ermm... ask the network administrator what type it is when I get into work tomorrow ;p.

Like I said, very wierd. I actually am a programmer for my company... so I knew when I first saw this issue in action, it had me completely stumped, as I couldn't think of any reason for it either.

Btw, does it make a difference if you play in a window or full screen?
Do you have the ingame FPS meter running when this happens? I am curious to know what the starting/ending value is.

And I forgot to mention that in the config file, the textureSize= parameter options are 32, 64 or 128.

"Intel(R) 946GZ Express Chipset Family"

No, I haven't tried it in fullscreen... The ability to slide my mouse to another window quickly was proving useful ;p. I'll give it a shot when able.

Also, how do I "activate" the FPS checker?

EDIT:

Also, I am now suffering from bug "11351" on the gna bug tracker (repair facility malfunction)... never had this problem before. Wonder if it's related...

Ok, I've just tried fullscreen, same deal; fine, until I select something.

Enter cheat/debug mode, and enter 'showfps'.

Intel gfx chipset... why am I not surprised.

Perhaps you can convince the Admin to install updated gfx drivers, hopefully, that will fix it.

Being the purist that I am, I've never entered "cheat" mode.

That a command line parameter? Like, run "warzone.exe --cheat"?

Also, talking to network admin.

Welp, that did it.

While the network admin proved NO HELP AT ALL, I ended up getting the latest drivers, and the framerate no long declines.

Not that it matters much now, but I do have to wonder what kind of driver bug that was...
