Idea for Commander Group Supplies
Hi all
You all know the feature of assigning a factory to a commander.
My idea: You have a group with a commander unit and when one of the members die, the assigned factory produces automatically a new tank (at best the same type which died).
I propose a additional button at the commander menu (right click on a commander)
What do you think?

That's a nice idea to make commanders more useful, since you have to rebuild and reassign yourself a unit everytime one dies, and that's very annoying..

Re: Idea for Commander Group Supplies
all though you CAN sort of queue units when a factory is assigned to a commander. as factories will wait untill the commander has romm for them before building the unit
Being able to tell the commander you want say 6 lancers, 4 heavy cannons and 2 heavy machine guns in the group and to order replacements when one is destroyed would be VERY useful.
Even more so if it also allowed you to build units from the factory when the commander wasn't using it.
Having to clear the construction queue, un-assign the factory from the commander, build a new truck, re-assign the factory to the commander, and then put the construction queue, back is a bit much just to replace a lost truck...

Re: Idea for Commander Group Supplies
build an additional factory for producing trucks and other sort of things and you don't have to disturb the supply factory.
it would be cool if you can assign multiple commanders to a factory, so you don't need as much factories as commanders.
or marking a factory as "auto-supply producer" or something (in the options; right click on factory). when a tank is needed, the nearest "auto-supply producer" factory produce and assign the unit to the specific commander.
and a bit advanced: when multiple factories are available the unbusiest called to order. so you can have a couple of factories automatically producing supply for your commanders

Hard to do if you've already reached the limit for the number of factories you can build ;Delio wrote: build an additional factory for producing trucks and other sort of things and you don't have to disturb the supply factory.

deja vu ftw
deffo sounds like a good idea
though id like to be able set the units it requests through augmenting the command turret orders menu.
something similar to the transport menu.

well, changing order / adding orders would be very complex to implement. but i think it's not a bad idea to be able to delete orders from the list (as the transport menu).

Re: Idea for Commander Group Supplies
at worst, better to only need to do it once
cause apparently the code for the interface is..... difficult to deal with.

i want a system on the commanders have their own build menu, where you can say exactly haw many of each template it has, then it orders them by when lost etc superseding the factories list (which ever factory can get the unit there soonest), and maintains the number of each unit automatically, but would allow other units to be built independent & unassigned by selecting the factory you want them built at.

the campaign can be done without commanders.
the game can be played without commanders.
that misses the point of what was said...

Re: Idea for Commander Group Supplies
For those of you who have English as a second language, I will try to explain carefully what we are talking about:
- We would like to be able to assign a factory to a commander, then tell the commander which units we would like in the command group.
- The commander would then order the factory to make the units.
- The factory would make the units and they would join the commander as normal.
- When a unit in the command group is destroyed the commander then orders the factory to make a replacement.
- You assign a factory and tell the commander you want 6 lancer cobra half-tracks, 4 heavy cannon python tracks and 2 Heavy MG python half-tracks.
- The factory then builds the units and they join the commander
- 2 of the lancers and a heavy MG are destroyed
- The commander orders the factory to build 2 lancers and 1 heavy MG to replace the missing units

Re: Idea for Commander Group Supplies
I think this is an interesting idea.
I'd like to summarize what I think would be ideal (IMHO): factories are not assigned to commanders anymore. You select type and quantity of units you want to have in commander's group and when the group is not full some routine makes factories (those ones best suited for the job, without defining what 'best suited' means right now) start building units.
But sometimes you might want to quickly build some other unit, therefore it would be nice to have a way (just a button in factory menu for example) to exclude a factory from set of factories that produce units for commanders, this way it is always available for any other needs.
