and formation speed limiting is ... well... crap. especially in cam 3
also, sometimes the commander starts moving first.
something to do with pathing???
You can't dismiss my strat just by calling it "crap" ;p.  The commander and all units move in formation in everything but chokepoints; once a chokepoint is reached, whoever is in front of him will go in before he does.  Although formation in chokepoints should really be a non-issue; you should never be fighting on the receiving end in a chokepoint against Nexus EVER, use VTOL and artillery to remove whatever is "choking" the point before proceeding through.

The commander will only start moving first if you are giving move orders within the non-commander-unit's sight range (NOT sensor range, sight range).  This usually amounts to 6-8 squares for most units.

psychopompos wrote: why bother with that?
just hide your tanks in your bases;)
and nexus will take your vtols. :P
Are we playing the same game?  Nexus never takes VTOLs.  The first time I ever played that stage, I had 50 tanks.  45 of them ended up converted.  Next time, I recycled everything but my VTOLS and 10 trucks; I lost 5 trucks (and my factories, but luckily storge experience isn't factory-dependent), but when it was over, I was able to rebuild my ground forces with no loss of experience.  Hiding my tanks in my base just means when Nexus starts mass-converting them, I'd lose them AND my bases ;p.

i was actually calling the function of the formation speed limiting crap, as it doesnt work well.

and... wow @ the number of lost units.
MOTHERBOARD - MSI P7N PLATINUM¦-¦PROCESSOR - C2D E7300 @ 4.00GHZ

Oh.  Well, crap though it may be, I still use it to my advantage ;p

That's what prompted me to come up with my "recycle'em" idea.  It was either that, or send EVERY unit I had to Gamma 2 to allow it to avoid the inevitable.  Luckily, my trick worked ;p.

4 trucks

5 Tank Killer rockets (having them all focus-fire on 1 thing will guarantee a kill in 1 volley, something you will need the power to do against nexus bodies in the early missions).

Any Commanders you wish to keep (I only brought 1)

The rest, make Assault gun units.

And since money is no option, make EVERYTHING on Tiger-Track.  Trust me, once you see the damage Nexus does early, you won't regret it.

And...

*** spoiler ***

Massed assault gun units will tear apart every non-plane nexus has for the first 2 stages; and will tear apart cyborgs and structures for the first 5.  Around that time, you'll get your first Laser.  replace your entire assault gun army immediately with lasers at that time... if you have 100K money at this point, I'll assume you know how to milk the clock to do this appropriately :)

Mousemaster,

I've reached Gamma 1, and have tried it over twice from an early save point.

The first time, I gave up, because my attempt at building artillery emplacements for the innocent purpose of defending my base resulted in a severe counter-barrage from NEXUS' main base that damaged a lot of other stuff apart from simply obliterating my expensive Hellstorm emplacements.

The second time, I made more use of my my main tank group(Group 3), consisting of a Hero-level Commander with 2 Heavy Tank-Destroyer Mk.2s(Tank Killer + Python + Tracks), and 20 Heavy Tank Mk.2s(Heavy Cannon + Python + Tracks). The Heavy Tank Mk.2 design dates back to Alpha 11, but has got several firepower and durability tech upgrades since then. By holding fire until all tanks are within range of a target, and then focusing fire, I managed to blast the early cyborgs to bits. I set up 3 TK hardpoints and a wall with 3 trucks to defend my main base, set up 5 AA emplacements on the hilltop, and sent Group 3 to capture the northeastern base along with 3 trucks to build a forward Repair Facility.

After destroying and capturing the base and all the oil derricks, I set up a defensive wall on the river bank near the northeastern valley. But the wall, just attracted NEXUS' patrolling hovercraft to attack, and my main tank group had to tie itself up to defend my forward base from a constant stream of guerrilla-warring cyborgs and hovercraft. Although the cyborgs could be handled, even focus-fire blasts couldn't kill the hovercraft. They had Retribution medium bodies, a stronger Auto-Repair system(compared to the cyborgs), were very fast(top speed 200), and were armed with Railguns, Pulse Lasers and, worst of all, Scourge Missiles.

My VTOLs, meanwhile, were unable to attack anything for the moment they crossed the river, a giant swarm of blue missiles would materialize out of the fog and chase them down. They couldn't be used to defend either, for then, NEXUS fighters( Retaliation light body + VTOL propulsion + Scourge Missile ) would shoot them down. Meanwhile, 5 NEXUS heavy bombers kept flying raids on my main base, and were seemingly immune to my flak. They'd fly in, drop bombs, and fly out unscathed. So I'm stuck in a stalemate for now.
________________________________________________________________________________________________

You say Assault Gun units will work? How, they're just a fancy version of the machine gun. I understand their effectiveness against cyborgs, but I doubt how useful they'll be against those super-hovercraft and those Plasteel defenses. The only upgrade my Research Facility is showing right now has a machine gun picture, and I'm not sure if it'll work on Assault Guns. I've attached a picture of the unit I think you're recommending.

Also, the Commander does have a tendency to move first. Although this can be avoided by manually moving the tanks ahead of the commander and reassigning.

I've replied in the other thread.  Given how long said reply is, I won't copy it here ;p
