Take a look at their catch phrase.

See anything familiar?  :(

Doesn't the whole GPL thing prevent people from cashing out on this type of thing?

Like, they can use it, but for them to be making money off of it is a no-no?

No.  People supposedly make money from GPL content but usually not directly (for instance, TiVo or basically any other linux-embedded device, plus others).  That is, they don't make money off the software, but from the hardware which runs from free software.

In the case of software, though, even the FSF admits that the market value of GPL software approaches its distribution cost -- which is near zero.  This is why the GPL is impractical in a commercial sense, other than to strong-arm other companies into abandoning software patents or preventing them from obtaining patents on free software.

But since I'm not a fan of the GPL, I think I'd better  :-X

As far as the "Design Deploy Destroy" thing goes, that may be a legal trademark of Eidos, and if so, Eidos would be the ones to pursue action, not the FSF.

Correct. GPL software cannot be sold, so you cannot make money from it like you can make money from software under other licenses.
Instead you sell support contracts (i.e. Reiser - ReiserFS, Novell - SuSE), hardware running that software (i.e. AVM - FritzBox, or the ones Chojun mentioned), payed addons to it (i.e. Innotek - VirtualBox) or dual license it, so you can sell it to comercial developers and ship it for free as Open Source (i.e. Trolltech - Qt).

A lawsuit can only be started by all the owners of the copyright. And I think ideas and phrases dont fall under copyright, there are special laws dealing with that.
Though if copyright would be touched here, then SCi (who owns Eidos, who owned Pumpkin) would be the ones to do it, like Chojun said it. The creators of the license (FSF) can not enforce it.
Neither could we, since it is very doubtful they used any of the Warzone 2100 Resurrection sourcecode. (Thus there is no license violation.) Even if there was, we would have to gather all the copyright owners behind us, which could prove difficult. (I.e. contacting old devs and getting SCi into the boat.)

* The only language Trademarked was "Warzone 2100". They're in violation of nothing.

* Thier weap designs and correlated command experience prerequisites are well thought out and interesting, IMHO. I'd go so far as to say they are especially instructive when examining WZ's own T3 GIGO.

You can sell GPL'd software, and you're welcome to, provided you follow all the other provisions of the GPL.

It's a very common misconception that doesn't come up very often, because if there's someone selling GPL software, unless they're the original author, you can almost certainly find it elsewhere for free, so the resellers aren't going to be making much money.

In that way, reselling GPL software isn't a practical source of income, since if you sell me GPL software (assuming I couldn't find it anywhere else), I'm just going to put it up on an FTP server for everyone else.  See http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html

Alright, alright, they can use the phrase ;p.

that said, give their catchphrase, their design, and for that matter, their name (Tiny ---Warz---?), it would be nice if they at least gave a shout-out to this site, no?

We were thinking about making Warzone turn based as its bug often make it run at an average of 1 fps, as someone already said  :D
