How do I save the game?

Post by helios »

Hi guys.

I discovered this game last night; Stayed up until 9 this morning playing it.

My question is: How am I supposed to save the game? I mean, I get the save screen, type something on the first slot....and that's where I get stuck.

Am I supposed to hit enter? I did that and all it did was clear whatever I typed ...
Am I supposed to click "Save Game" on the Save Game screen? Tried that, same results...

Thanx.

The overwritten/not deleted was a issue with physfs, that was fixed.
The saving of a game named 'zzzname' is OK also.

helios, you don't mention which version of the game, but if you are running anything before 2.0.10, then update.
2.1 is almost ready if you can wait a bit longer.

And yes, all you do is click save, then pick a 'slot' then type a name with normal ASCII characters, and hit return.  The filename can't have any special symbol that your file system don't support.  Most of them are screened out to _ though.  Saving "blah@" I think gets changed to "blah_"
and it ends here.

Thank you guys for your replies.

It's working now.
I had originally installed it on my desktop (I wasn't sure if I was gonna keep it). So tonight I uninstalled it and re-installed it in my C: Program Files.

But since you guys verified that I do have to hit 'enter' got me thinking; I was using the 'enter' button by the numerical keypad, so after re-installing I tried using the one by the 'shift' key and it worked. Unfortunately, I didn't think about tryng the first 'enter' key like I had been doing before, so I don't know if the problem was that I was using the wrong 'enter' key or the program needed to be in its proper folder...

Next time I go to save the game, I'll try both 'enter' keys and let you'all know...

Thanks again for your prompt replies.

"somehow i get the feeling helios is waiting on the save screen for a satisfying answer, lest he lose his many hours of progress"

LOL, almost...

For the last couple of days, being unable to save the game, and being that I was new to it, I basically said "Oh well, I'll start from the beginning again"; When it comes to games, I'm not one to read instructions - I like to figure it out as I go along; So I figured I'll really learn how to play it until I can figure out how to save it.
But tonight, it finally got old, and I got to the point that I was thinking about leaving the game open and the computer on all night...

But like I said, it's fixed now. I will let you all know what the problem was, in case you ever get another newbie with the same problem...

Thanks again.

P.S.  Where is this website located (or out of) ?  It's  3:15 a.m. here in Texas, and I'm looking at the time here on these posts, and it says 10:15 a.m. Must be somewhere in Europe...

certainly the question does still stand regarding the physical location of the server, but that's probably irrelevant to what you were really asking: most forum software that i've seen will default the timezone to GMT (england) on a per-user basis until they manually change it. thus, if in your user preferences, you change your timezone to, say, central time, you'll probably end up with something more to your liking. furthermore, if this site (or at least this forum) is running on a unix server, then by convention, it would have it's system clock set to GMT as well, regardless of where it actually is, and rely on per (unix) user timezone settings to display per-user correct times.

In what version LOL..?
I update to 2.08...then apply patch 2.0.10 (from 2.0.8)...but in game it shows that version is still 2.0.8. Why ???
If it is 2.0.10 version, at me it still doesnt delete file, nor overwrite them.

There is an issue with the update from 2.0.8 to 2.0.10... It apparently doesn't update as expected...
The soon to come 2.1_beta will render this problem irrelevant though.
