I would like to install the latest version.

But am afraid I don't know how.

I have the older version now with an Xubuntu machine.
The old version was installed using Ubuntu Software Center.

you should upgrade you video drivers aND FOLLOW THIS GUIDE THE LASTEST STABLE VERSION IS 3.1.1
