Command Queing

Post by RBL-4NiK8r »

I was wondering if I missed something, because on the last d/l I got 2 weeks or so ago, I noticed that I could not use this, or I forgot how, and that I would find kind of sad, that really slows your game down when you have to keep going back to trucks to baby sit them.

i havnt noticed it being missing, i know with combat units there are only a limited no of waypoints/targets(10?) you can set, but with trucks iv never seen that.

just hold shift to queue up a whole outpost, though some of it isnt too intuitive though, like the illuminated squares where structures are to be placed dont stay illuminated.

they do if your first structure you build (ie: factory) is placed twice....  and as long as that key is held down you can continue - even with a row of hardpoints etc...

I thought there was a 10-building limit to the queue feature.

i don't think there should be any limit... the ram of an average comp from the time the game was initially released was more than enough for (virtually) unlimited queued commands.  and if ram really does become an issue, any given unit's command queue can consist of pointers to commands, or to a shared command stack, which should be created any time a group of units are given the same order simultaneously. shared command stacks would also allow for easy simultanous execution of commands: if group execution of commands in the shared stack were enabled, then no unit can deal with the next command until all units with that stack have completed the previous one, thus if you give waypointed-movement orders, they'd wait at each waypoint until all units with that order arrived.

*checks both*
waypoints have 24(25) point limit

havnt a clue about the build queue for trucks, as was able to make a truck build an entire base inc defences.

and the highlighted squares only show when you are prep. to put another down.

why does the first struct not show unless set twice?

i dont know - it just doesnt...  try it sometime.  you put the building down and the trucks will start building it right away.... if you notice - it wont appear if you place the next building immediately...ect.... ;D

yes construction queing is limited to 10 for some reason. However one row of 12 walls is considered one build order to warzone, so most rarely hit the limit. I however seem to always hit that limit when building VTOL pads because when I go VTOL... I go all out VTOL... ;)

but yes it's been this way since they added that functionality in one of the patches back in the day...

Ah, the Air Armada strat.  I know that all too well ;p.

And I run into the 10 queue limit often... both from VTOL pads, and when I'm force-colonizing an area, I give my truck corp the orders to set up a wide area of structures while my battlegroup covers them.  Many times this is more than 10 items.

AFAICT, the limit is in place for 2 reasons, the PSX, and the fact that in the original wz, you couldn't even zoom out far enough to place that many units I don't think.

Yeah, this can be changed... stick the request in the right thread, (the wish list sticky) since this is bound to get lost.
and it ends here.
