nexus hax your brain?
how, if the units in WZ have human occupants, does nexus take control of them?
is there some kind of story to it?
i could understand a virus disabling/affecting the performance of a computer reliant vehicle, but taking control permanently and entirely!
in current tanks for instance, if mechanical loading units break, the crew can still load manually.

* All borgs & unit pilots have "Synaptic Links" & this is the basis of 3 GPMs:psychopompos wrote: how, if the units in WZ have human occupants, does nexus take control of them?

* (1.) Command & Control "Digital Battle Space" augmented by "U.A.V.s"
* (2.) "Mind-control" via the Nexus Link "Capture Turret"
* (3.) "Battlespace Info Disruption" via the Nexus "Intruder Virus"..
* At least, that is HOW it is playing out at present in WZ 2200.

Re: nexus hax your brain?
An interesting explanation, however:
Of course it is possible when the synaptic technology is discovered that it was implemented in units as well, however I am unsure.
Regards, Freddie.
- At the start of the first campaign it is stated that we are searching for the synaptic link technology.
- Therefore if we are searching for it, then we do not currently have it.
- We do, however, have units. If we assume that units have pilots (and who says they do, the US are currently investing in UAVs quite heavily), then they can not have a synaptic link.

#1 if they where controlled via proxy, why do they still work with no structures present?EvilGuru wrote: So based off of the Warzone 2100 canon units do not have a synaptic link. I would therefore argue that units do not have pilots at all, and are controlled via proxy/remote. It is more logical (and makes me feel better when I destroy an enemy unit).

#2 if that link tech was a weakness, it would obviously follow to remove it when against nexus.
thus providing a very quick fix! for tanks anyway.

They may have some kind of software fallback (so AI) should the main connection fail. It is also possible they are controlled from a long way away (100's of miles possibly).#1 if they where controlled via proxy, why do they still work with no structures present?
Or develop resistant circuits. Windows has a lot of viruses, but we do not just remove it when there is a new virus around, no, we get anti-virus software and update our system.#2 if that link tech was a weakness, it would obviously follow to remove it when against nexus.

(For anyone considering posting saying: "OMG teh sux, I ditched winblows!1111" please take it out back. I'd like to see open source lancer AT rocket drivers for Linux.)

------>
* The very begining of the Campaign doesnot have to dictate all MP GPMs visa-vis the Synaptic Link Tech.
* If you have any depth in the actual engineering of military drone technology (cheap, fast, nimble, small, stealth) you'd have a hard time justifying the argument that tank units in WZ are controlled by proxy. Everything about their constructions flys in the face of drone engineering technology. I dare say, it's an untenable contention.
* WZ's Time-line / Backstory is full of holes & glaring inconsistencies which is why I've re-written it & fleshed it out with the explicit permission & blessing of WZ creators - I asked, they gave it, and I took up the challenge.
* There are countless ways of approaching the challenge - obviously, my way is only one of myriad.
* Feel free to take up the challenge in your own way & follow your own visionary extention of the original. I'm sure it will be different & interesting.

well from my point of view it would be pretty scary to think that the unit that can't go around that fing pillbox actually has a person in it... I mean honestly, if a person can't figure out how to take a step to the left, are we really doing the right thing by trying to save these people to re-populate the earth with?

In any case, I wonder if remote controlled drones were not one of the ideas that Pumpkin played with, and maybe abandoned. After all, there are remains of code that suggests that they planned to implement "program" components that you could insert into droids (or maybe only commanders), and which could be upgraded. Wouldn't it be neat if eg path finding was one of those things you could research and made better during the game, as your drones got better programmed
In a way, this would also suggest a philosophical similarity between the Project and Nexus, as opposed to those who survived on the surface and may have developed a rather different approach to life and technology.
Just throwing those ideas out there.

that said at start: a group of survivor discovered an abandonned base.
they are surely not engoud to be in each tank.
that was only robot

The best tactit is to mixted up the great tank, the little tank, the adav and the cyborg. And whit this army, doing great stratégie.

I look the movie of the original and I can said this:
the tank dont have any human in.
the cyborg was controled by human.
The synaptic link was used to do a connection whit the human and the machine.
Once they are armored,(cyborg) they can control these armon like they own body.

Hey! thats not a bad idea, especially the whole upgrade commander thing, "program upgrades" for commanders allowing better handling of there group, target selection, maybe even defining multiple targets for the group, even just a base increase in the numbers they can command. might make them more useful in skirmish and multilayer gamesPer wrote: Funny.

* The whole thing is called "C-3" and it will be a major WZ 2200 GPM.
* Per: Your on the right track. Early on, circa 1996, Pumpkin's Nick Cook's concept drawings for WZ made it clear they were moving in this direction of "Drones".... but at some point it was abandoned (like a lot of other stuff)... more than likely put-off for the WZ 2100 Sequel which was buried, for a spell at least, with the dissolution of Pumpkin Studios.
* Here are a couple of early concept screens:
