Pendrive Linux -- Help

Post by doom3r »

So... I finally decided to get myself a Linux OS on my pc. I chose Debian, and I find out that PendriveLinux was based on it. I wanted to try Debian before installing it on my pc (which already has WinXP and Vista), and it looks like Pendrivelinux was a good way to try a Debian-based system. I succesfully installed the OS on a 1gb pendrive, then tried to boot it. Everything works fine, until i get an X-Server startup error, which says "Failed to start the xserver. It is likely it is not set up correctly". The error log finishes with "fatal server error: no screens found", then the screens goes back to the terminal screen. I tried to reinstall the OS, and got the same problem. Then, I found a guide to configure x server, it tells me to edit the config file by typing "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". I configured Xorg, then... i just dont know what to do. Do I have to restart Linux, or try to run xserver again (Im so new in Linux i dont even know how to do that), or change the boot method, which are: Pendrive Linux persistent, Pendrive to RAM, and Pendrive failsafe?

I decided to post here, rather than on a Linux support line, because i know many experts here use Linux. Hope you can help me fixing this  ::)

I don't want to reject you or anything, but I do believe that people on Pendrive Linux or Debian GNU/Linux forums / mailinglists know more about their respective distributions... ;)
Maybe it is some problem specififc to their setup, a bug in their packages, or whatever...
But maybe you are lucky and find a Pendrive Linux user here, or a Debian GNU/Linux user who has experienced the same problems by chance.

Nope. It is some kind of configuration problem. I can't help you fix it.
Even if I found the issue with your xorg.conf, that would not help you next time you install it...
Additionaly the Pendrive guys should get to know that their auto configuration fails.
And the chances that they already know it, and thus also know how to fix it, are way bigger than finding someone here who does.

PS: Whoever shall help you needs to know a bit about your system...
This means at least information about your graphics related hardware (graphicscard, monitor, connection between them, ...) and your xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X logfile (/var/log/Xorg.0.log).
