United Commanders of Warzone 2100

Post by stealthx »

Flag.png
The "United Commanders of Warzone 2100" is a community that serves a dual purpose:
  • 1. Build a sizable and formidable gaming clan for multiple strategy games; open source or closed.

    2. Build a community aimed at helping expand the play-ability, fun, funding, user-base, and community resources for the Warzone 2100 Project itself. We are more than just a clan.

    Some things to know:

    1. The community is meant to be a fun, interactive, and all around awesome device of real-time strategy. You DO NOT have to join the clan itself to be a member of the community. Join the group on Facebook, post your idea, and participate.

    2. We are attempting to host a store in support of the Warzone 2100 Project, so any related hard-copy artwork, merchandise, music,or connections you have to offer would be wonderful.

    3. If successful, the goal is to eventually expand our horizons and help out other awesome real-time strategy, open source projects.

    4. We are awesome, and we know it.
    Recap:

The official page for United Commanders of Warzone 2100 (UCWZ), we are a new gaming clan for the Warzone 2100 real-time (and other real-time strategy games). Our clan is not only aimed for playing the game, but also aimed to benefit and expand the Warzone 2100 Project (so that we can still play it in the future and we can ensure new and awesome updates). Everyone is accepted, just join the group on facebook and like the page. We are awesome. Period. :D

what kind of store? you are going to be selling things?
We aim to not become a leaching, destroying group of dominating players, but a good gaming clan with connections, expirence, and all around awesomeness to be used to help keep the Warzone 2100 Project alive and well.
O_o

Yes, we will be opening an online Real-time strategy game related store, for warzone 2100 and hopefully others soon, that will include whatever the members ask to be put up.

Leaching probably wasn't the best word for using the game without giving back to the community, as most good clans do give back in the warzone community as far as i can tell.

Yes, i agree the website needs work... i made this very rough version in around an hour. So yes, there is much to do.

The store is more like a thing that could happen if we (so far its just me, my friends, and 1 other person) get enough people to do such a thing.

The original idea of the store was to donate artwork to be sold in benefit of the Warzone 2100 Project or (If we get bigger) other open source Real-time strategy projects such as 0 A.D..

HOWEVER, that is a good idea... so if we do get to be that size that may be an option for people who want to make a profit as well.

WE WILL NOT HOLD COPYRIGHT MATERIAL. And trust me, if the store has any possibility of opening i will be observing licenses of material to see what is allowed.

I was going to say it looked like it was not finished but I guess that was obvious
I still do not see how this will work if you get stuff then sell that stuff then what is to stop people from getting the same stuff for free?
everything is free on this site

Like i said, that is not even going to be considered unless we get enough people. It is only then we will consider doing such things. We will still contribute though.

I personally would have nothing against stuff like people buying t-shirts with my wz artwork on them, and since most of my stuff is licensed as public domain, it means anyone can do it. I would prefer, though, that the price would only consist of production and shipping costs, although maybe some merchandise could be sold with a small profit for keeping the wz servers alive.

What I don't understand is people creating websites from scratch in this day and age when you have so many open source works out of the box type solutions like Joomla, wordpress, etc, etc - all of these are highly customizable and have a plethora of add ons and templates ready made for them - with a few tweaks it is easy enough to customize these things to your needs.

Why make more work for yourself?

I know it is fun to make a website in the beginning, but after awhile it becomes a grind especially when you want features and user access levels, in the end it will take literally years to do something that could be done in a few weeks using existing solutions...
Moving back instead of forward
Seems to me absurd
